Steps to reproduce:

Ask anything to ChatGPT

Click the "Stop Generating" button

Expected result:

The model should stop generating the message in the background.

Actual result:

The model does not stop writing. It continues to generate its response in the background. The stream only gets ignored on client side.

This is still happening and this is very annoying, especially when ChatGPT is using tools. It will continue to use the tools in the background even if we hit "stop".

@elfin flint 100% I'm having the same, tough I wonder if it's not a feature. Someone discussed about it earlier, but openai might have changed stuff, now when gpt4 is much faster you can't stuop it, and as a fact if you reload the page the completion is already finished

you can try to send a message while it's "stopped". I recommend not doing so in an "important" chat because the result is: irreversible break of the chat.

If the change is intended, they can remove the stop button. But it would be a shame... It's nice being able to stop the generation when we see it's not going in the right direction. Especially when using dall-e or code interpreter

I just tried and it doesn't break 100% of the time. I think it breaks when it's using tools.

actually, they might have worked on it. It doesn't glitch as much I believe. I need to test further.

We've made some fixes to the Stop Generating button in the last couple weeks. How is it now? I wasn't able to reproduce the original issue shown in the screenshots when I tried today.
