#GPT4 cannot remember or follow instructions.

What is happening with ChatGPT this week? I'm using GPT4 and it cannot - I repeat - it cannot follow instructions. When I signed up for the paid account last year, GPT4 follows all instructions to a tee, and is also able to proactively avoid errors in the tasks I give it. Now, it can't stick to what I tell it to do, and it forgets 2-3 prompts away from the current one.

For instance: I have an editing task and I instruct it to:

  • Never mess with the division of paragraphs. Do not split paragraphs, do not combine paragraphs. Edit what's in the paragraphs, do not merge with other paragraphs.
  • Retain all details mentioned in each paragraph. If one paragraph brings up workstations, servers, and Active Directories, it must include those details.
  • Stay faithful to the original by using recognisable keywords and phrases.
  • Never introduce new details that weren't included in the original.

Even with these details, the AI keeps breaking the editing rules - including my custom instructions, some of which overlap with these details I've shared.

Additional info:
Browser - Chrome
OS - Windows 11

To make matters even worse, since GPT4 commits so many mistakes, I need to keep refining its output with prompts, and this ends up with me using up my 40 prompts in less than 3 hours. I have to wait until they refresh, and this delays my work. Absolutely poor service.

Maybe you are having same issue as me? My chatGPT4 truncate my messages, so appears that it is not adhering to my instructions or understand my prompt at all

The reason is probably the usual stuff

  1. They found stuff in their original training data that was not legally permissible so they had to remove that and re-train
  2. They are pruning the model and using non-quadratic attention to reduce GPU costs. (* cough * turbo * cough *)
