#volume on android app issue

When I click read aloud text already generated the volume is fine, when I go to voice chat mode it goes to "call" mode and the volume is really low. Other people have also asked this question in discussions channel and no conclusive fixes or suggestions have been found. This is quite a serious flaw I believe as it greatly impacts the voice feature, especially when trying to show it to other people as they'd need to hold the phone to their ear for example or using hands free on loud speaker etc.

Thanks for the report. What device are you using? Are any bluetooth devices attached?

#

Also, are you able to adjust volume up and down while in voice mode? What happens when you try to adjust volume?

Hi @rancid sierra thanks for your response. So I'm on redmi note 10 pro android phone.no Bluetooth devices connected just playing through the phones speaker. I can adjust the volume up and down but at max volume it's still too quiet to be useful hands free I'd say. I've attached a screenshot that shows that it goes into a "voice conversation" mode that is like a call as opposed to normal audio playback and cannot be adjusted. I have even tried an audio boosting app which works on all media playing through my phone except the chat gpt voice mode. This issue is not connected to the audio boosting app I simply used that to test it's effects. As I mentioned when highlighting a chat text and clicking read aloud the volume is fine it's specifically in the voice chat mode when speaking to it verbally. I have searched "volume" in the search bar on discord and found other people mentioning this too. Would be great to be able to have the voice conversations with adequate volume. Could be worth testing on an android device to see the difference I mentioned as I'm assuming it would be replicable.thanks.

When I say (cannot be adjusted) as in the volume can't be adjusted to be higher than the max volume slider allows on the device in the call mode if that makes sense

@oak harbor thanks. In your best estimation, does it seem like it's using the earpiece speaker instead of the "speakerphone" while you're in voice mode? That's my best guess at what is happening, it seems to be device specific and I'll likely have to get my hands on some devices that have this issue so we can root cause it.

I would say it's certainly from the phones speaker, I have just tested it again to be sure, If it were possible to have the audio when in voice mode playback in the same way as when highlighting text and clicking read aloud that would appear to fix it but I of course don't know the technicalities of this or if that's even possible. I appreciate you investigating this, I feel that you should be able to replicate it on specific devices as you mentioned if you do try a few different androids. Good luck with it, I will be happy to see if a solution arises. Thanks again.

@oak harbor I just got a Redmi Note 10 Pro and have been testing Voice - the volume seems pretty similar to other devices. I'm wondering what could be different on your phone. Can you send me a screenshot of the volume indicator when you're adjusting it during a Voice session? And can you confirm what Android version/MIUI version your phone has?

(I just realised the screen recording didn't record the audible volume change but shows it visually at least)

#

(actually it does record the read aloud part towards the end of the video .. which I had mentioned is louder than when in voice chat mode as it appears to be a different audio mode)

#

Hopefully this helps.

If it's a specific issue with my device that some other people also seem to have experienced and you're testing with the exact device I wouldn't know what the issue could be but if we're to use a different device it sounds like maybe that could be worth trying, even though I'll probably be sticking with my phone for a while, thanks for looking into it. Feel free to let me know if you find anything else out no worries if not obvious or easy fix. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing. We're on a slightly different build but same Android OS version.

I think it's certainly true on this device that media volume goes louder than "call" volume even on speakerphone, which is likely what you're observing.

I'll look into whether we can use media volume for Voice. In the past we've had difficulty with Bluetooth mics working correctly in that configuraiton. But it would give the consistent volume behavior you're seeking. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions.
