#Updating a published chatGPT fails

I have for several weeks tried to update a chatGPT version that is published to everyone in the GPT store. It fails every time I have added a document (not if I modify some text in the instructions). What could be the reason for this? I'd like to make it smarter by adding relevant documentation in the knowledge part with files.

Hi @verbal sable. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Based on the information provided in the extracts, it's not entirely clear why you're experiencing issues when trying to update your published ChatGPT by adding a document to the knowledge section. However, there are a few possibilities that could be causing this issue:

  1. Size or Format of the Document: The document you're trying to add might be too large or in an unsupported format. As per the extract from the OpenAI community forum (https://community.openai.com/t/498177), the GPT model chunks and embeds the documents you upload. If the document is too large, it might be causing the model to error out.

  2. GPT Store Policies: There might be some restrictions or policies related to updating a published GPT in the GPT Store that are not explicitly mentioned in the extracts provided.

  3. Technical Glitch: It could also be a technical issue with the platform itself.

To resolve this issue, I would recommend the following steps:

  • Ensure the document you're trying to add is in a supported format and is not too large.
  • Review the OpenAI documentation and GPT Store policies to ensure you're not violating any rules or restrictions.
  • If the problem persists, consider reaching out to OpenAI support or posting your issue in the OpenAI community forum for further assistance.

Unfortunately, without more specific information or error messages, it's difficult to provide a more precise answer.

@split wraith I have tried both PDF and text and the documents are not large. It saves them, it is only in the publish command it fails.

Based on the information provided in the extracts, it seems like there might be an issue with the publishing process itself. In a forum post (https://community.openai.com/t/508485), a user reported a similar issue where they were unable to publish any GPT, regardless of the configuration. The user was able to publish a GPT by first saving the changes with “Only me” and then publishing.

You could try this workaround:

  1. Save the changes to your GPT with the visibility set to "Only me".
  2. Then, try to publish your GPT.

If this doesn't work, it's possible that there's a technical issue with the OpenAI platform. In such cases, it would be best to reach out to OpenAI support for further assistance. You can initiate a new conversation using the on-site chat tool at help.openai.com as mentioned in the Help Article (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/6783457-what-is-chatgpt).
