#Checking for answer consistency, that darn 'what do I do if someone else is on my account' question

A user on the Discord forum is saying they are the sole authorized user on their account but they are seeing conversations appear that they are not creating. They say they have changed their password, and have logged out and back in, but these 'not them' conversations are still appearing, real time, as they watch.

How do we advise this user to get faster help?

Hi @stone dock. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

If you suspect unauthorized activity on your account, it's crucial to act quickly. Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Delete your API keys: You can delete your API keys via the API key dashboard (https://platform.openai.com/account/api-keys). This will prevent any unauthorized access using your current keys.

  2. Contact OpenAI immediately: The sooner you report the issue, the faster OpenAI can help resolve it and minimize any potential damage. You can contact OpenAI through help.openai.com (http://help.openai.com).

  3. Review Account Activity: Check for any unfamiliar activity on your account, such as unexpected API usage. The detail you provide will help OpenAI restore your account.

Also, monitor your account usage and rotate your keys when needed. A compromised API key allows a person to gain access to your account quota, without your consent. This can result in data loss, unexpected charges, a depletion of your monthly quota, and interruption in your API access. Your teams’ Usage can be tracked via the Usage (https://beta.openai.com/account/usage) page. If you ever have concerns about misuse there are three actions you can take to protect your account:

I can't evaluate the above, as I only use ChatGPT, not the playground/API.

#

@robust token THank you! But the user is saying they are a ChatGPT user, not an API/Playground user. What advice for that user about this apparently compromised account and how to secure it and/or get OpenAI's assistance as fast as reasonable?

If a ChatGPT user suspects unauthorized activity on their account, they should take the following steps:

  1. Contact OpenAI immediately: The sooner the issue is reported, the faster OpenAI can help resolve it and minimize any potential damage. The user can get in touch with the support team through help.openai.com (https://help.openai.com).

  2. Review Account Activity: The user should check for any unfamiliar activity on their account, such as unexpected usage. The detail they provide will help OpenAI restore their account.

Unfortunately, OpenAI currently does not support changing the email address linked to a ChatGPT account. If the user would like to use ChatGPT with a different email address, they must create a new OpenAI account with the other email address.

Please note that OpenAI's support team does not monitor forums for account-related queries. Therefore, it's important to contact them directly through the official support channel.
