Bug Report:

I used to be able to upload 20 documents for a GPT, now I get an error after 10... no documentation saying any limit number anywhere so I assume it's a bug.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Upload 10 text files (e.g. Microsoft Word .docx) each just a few pages in length, save and publish Public
  2. Upload 11th text file (.docx)

Expected result:

Upload is successful

Actual result:

Upload results in error

There's a bit of relevant documentation in this FAQ:

https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8555545-file-uploads-with-gpts-and-advanced-data-analysis-in-chatgpt

"How many files can I upload at once per GPT?
Up to 10 files per GPT for the lifetime of that GPT. Keep in mind there are file size restrictions and usage caps per user/org."

I am surprised to hear that you had 20 on a GPT in the past, as I thought it was always 10? Do you still have that GPT saved by chance, with 20 still uploaded to it as knowledge files?

Thanks @jolly olive looks like they just decided on it. I was making GPTs the night of DevDay and in the following days had 20 docs, but I guess they reduced the limit in recent week(s) and put out a statement recently. Good to know thanks!

I will try combining my text docs in to one up to the limit per

I believe it is not just a limit of number but a limit of total size as well.
