Custom GPTs has not been working for me all day. I cannot save the GPT

I cannot save the GPT.
The preview chat doesnt work - just says something is wrong.
I only have 3 GPTs and one is locked.

Tried logging in and out, changing browser, restart etc. Same thing.

Any help appreciated.

What are the general contents of the problematic GPT? You're saying you're able to edit, save, and use 2 of your 3, but the 3rd one is problematic?

I cannot save any of them - I get an error message ‘GPT Save Error’. The locked one opens but both windows - chat and preview returns an error ‘Oops… something went wrong’ when I try to edit or interact with it.

Can you use the GPTs normally, even though you can't edit them? And does the normal GPT-4 model also function normally? Just trying to get an idea of what works and what doesn't for you.

Yes that’s right. GPT-4 works normally and the GPTs work (except the locked one). I just can’t save the GPTs.

I have heard of some GPTs getting "bugged" such that they become inoperable in one way or another. One thing I've read that's worked for some users has been to start an entirely new GPT, and copy/paste the info from a bugged GPT into it, then deleting the old GPT. No idea why or what could cause this, but it might be worth a shot to see if you can get through with a fresh GPT.

Ok, I was thinking of this. However, I forgot to say, I tried a new GPT from scratch as a test. I could get it working fine, but then I had the same error.

What are the general contents of one of the GPTs with a problem, just so I can get an idea? I also want to double-check if you're sure you're below the 8000 character limit. And I don't think it lets you upload more than 10 knowledge files, but I think that is still the limit there too.

It’s a really simple GPT that enables a small business to create principles and policies for AI usage. There are 2 small knowledge files containing examples. I didn’t know about the character limit though. However, that won’t be reason for the save error on the test GPT.

Do you by chance include any specific business names, either in your instructions or in your knowledge files? I'm wondering if maybe a copyrighted company name could be causing some issues.

Did the test GPT have anything like this either? Or is it really, any GPT even with something super innocuous like "write in poems only" has this issue for you?

I will check but I don’t think so. Given that the save error happens across all GPTs makes me think it is something to do with my Plus account (it all worked fine yesterday btw). I assumed that this was a general issue for everyone at first.

Ok - I just deleted the locked one and I am now able to save the other GPTs. It seems that this one was in a locked state and was preventing any save. Thank you @thorny haven for your help 🙏

Nice troubleshooting there, glad you got yourself all resolved And thank you for reporting back, it certainly seems like there's a "poisoning" effect that can happen with certain GPTs that break other functionalities unexpectedly. Hopefully this is temporary and doesn't come back again for you--maybe some backend config stuff has changed from "earlier" GPTs to current ones? Total speculation, but again, thank you for sharing your experience!
