#Long Conversations Are Extremely Slow

Bug Report: ChatGPT on browsers such as Chrome and Firefox slow to a crawl on longer conversations. It does not seem like the length of the conversation matters much when using the app. However, with long conversations on browsers, the page completely freezes up after sending any input. Shorter conversations do not have this issue. My conversation devoted solely to DALL-E was working fine until a few days ago when I began to have "Page Unresponsive" errors. The page freezes up and refuses to produce any output, eventually forcing me to refresh the page, as ten minutes would pass without any reply after sending the initial prompt. Upon a page refresh, we can finally read ChatGPT's reply, but this is quite the clunky way to go about things. Only then can we view the outputted images of cats in Halloween costumes.

Fresh conversations do not have this issue, leading me to believe that this issue only affects conversations that have been heavily used in the past. Again, the app does not seem to care about the conversation's length. My "GPT-4" conversation on Chrome takes ages to respond to my prompts, especially vision ones. However, when working with the same conversation on the app, it's as fast as ever. No freezes here.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Send a prompt on any conversation that is considered "long".
  2. The page will freeze up and fail to produce any replies. Upon a page refresh, the reply will be there.

Expected result:
Usually, ChatGPT replies in a "typing style", as if it's typing away in front of our eyes.

Actual result:
When ChatGPT eventually does reply, it produces text in chunks. Most of the time, it fails to reply at all unless I refresh the page. And the longer the conversation, the lower the likelihood that we receive a reply at all without refreshing the page.
