Inspired by true events!

In the mid-1800s, two paleontologists (E. D. Cope and O. C. Marsh, at the time on generally friendly terms) had a notorious disagreement after Cope placed a fossil animal’s skull at the end of its short tail, rather than its long neck! After Marsh pointed out the mistake, Cope (unsuccessfully) attempted to destroy every copy of his published faulty reconstruction. Sadly, tensions only escalated between the two scientists, leading up to the infamous “Bone Wars” from ~1880-1890, where they competed to find and name more dinosaur species. In the end, their competitive research more than doubled the number of named species, including famous ones we know and love today, like Triceratops and Stegosaurus.

Prompt: “Watercolor scene set in a grand museum hall adorned with beautiful artwork and sculptures. The most striking feature is a massive skeleton with peculiar flippers. Two scholars, engrossed in an animated discussion, stand near it. One, tall with short brown hair parted down the center and a mustache, holds a drawing up for emphasis. The other, more stout with a balding head and a thick beard, gestures to the other end of the skeleton, evidently challenging the taller scholar's viewpoint.” (DALLE3_robot via GPT)
