Worth noting: I'll primarily be relying on phrasing around smoking here, but I'm also including vaping in that concept- I've tended to move back and forth between them fairly interchangeably in the past.
Project name or Use-case: Smoking Cessation Support
OpenAI Technology Utilized: ChatGPT, API (chat completions)
Project Details: See below!
Quick overview:
I've spent a decent little chunk of time (in full view of my medical professionals where applicable) seeing what problems of mine might be significantly impacted by just "throwing some AI at it". I have a lot of conversations with my therapist about the idea of building systems of behavioral support, and I think one of the use cases that I've found most objectively impactful was a chatbot built on OpenAI's chat completions endpoints to support me through the process of quitting smoking. I set up a simple chatbot to be interacted with in Discord DMs. I am happy to note that after 15 years and more attempts than I care to count (with every support structure I could find - patches, gum, support groups, medication... you name it), I've been smoke-free for 133 days now. I'll probably be dumping some screenshots in here for reference.
Full disclosure: I'm not relying on ChatGPT for medical or therapeutic advice here - this has been done in full view of my medical and behavioral support pros. My doctor and therapists have regularly been involved/consulted as part of this, which is part of a much larger effort on my part and the part of my medical support team tailored to my specific circumstances. My experience is completely anecdotal here. This is not an invitation to reproduce my approach exactly - it's more meant to inform an investigation of what considerations might be worth exploring when building some processes around solving other problems with a similarly unique set of circumstances.
Edit: Trying to post about it and my messages keep getting auto-removed, so... I guess that's all the info ya get. Lol 😂
