One of the powerful attributes of DALL-E 3 via ChatGPT is its conversational capacity. I thought, maybe I can use it as a tool to learn about less familiar art styles from cultures around the world. As a way of practice, I started experimenting with a more familiar territory: Japanese art. "Ink wash painting in gentle hues showcasing a minimalist koi pond. A single koi fish swims gracefully in the clear water, surrounded by a few smooth, moss-covered stones. The pond's edges are undefined, merging softly with the surroundings. The painting exudes a sense of tranquility, simplicity, and the wabi-sabi aesthetic of beauty in the understated and imperfect."

Before I generated the image above, I asked ChatGPT about "chanoyu" (tea ceremony) tradition and used the concepts in its response, such as wabi-sabi, to write my prompt. The initial set of images weren't "wabi-sabi" enough for me, so I asked for a revision to "fully embody" the concept.

Encouraged by this result, I ventured out to South East Asian fabric art, "batik." I went through the same steps, and then, asked for an abstract painting using the characteristics of batik design: "Oil painting showcasing abstract motifs and patterns reminiscent of traditional Balinese batik, with a modern artistic twist."

I progressed to an oil painting of "a woman swimming in the ocean" using the same design scheme, then, asked to turn it into a metallic ink sketch on black lacquer background. ChatGPT prompt: "Artistic metallic ink drawing on deep black lacquer, depicting a woman swimming in the sea, her form highlighted with reflective strokes against the dark backdrop."

One last push: add mother-of-pearl inlays. "Metallic ink sketch on a black lacquer background of a woman swimming in the ocean, enhanced with shimmering mother-of-pearl inlays in select areas to highlight her form and the water's movement."
