#When the session ends, the ongoing chat is lost.

Hello,

I am reiterating my point because of the annoyance with this problem that I am encountering. It is unacceptable that at the end of the login session, in the absence of the UUID in the URL, the ongoing chat is completely lost after redirection. We then find ourselves in a new empty chat, generating frustration and annoyance, as it is constantly necessary to search again in the history. It is incomprehensible to me that millions of people are not already outraged by this situation, which personally exasperates me.

What is even more surprising is that this session expiration only concerns ChatGPT. Indeed, after the expiration message, a redirection is made to Google, and then an immediate return to ChatGPT, acting like a token refresh. In reality, the session should have been extended, or at least keep the history of the current ChatGPT page!

In Google Chrome, I have disabled the memory saver option for your site via the performance options, but it has not changed anything! The problem is clear: you reload the page without a session in the URL. Therefore, you should, during the chat initialization, modify the URL to include the UUID.

Thank you for your attention and I wish you an excellent day.

Bug Report:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. After connecting with an email, Google
  2. Create a new chat (this chat should not have a UUID in the URL)
  3. Leave this Google Chrome tab in a dying page, wait several hours, or even a day for the session to expire
  4. Return to the tab, at this point a message stating that the session has expired is displayed and automatically a redirection, which goes back into the Google mail for authentication, and which redirects you again to ChatGPT.
  5. Upon returning to ChatGPT, your ongoing chat is completely lost and you find yourself in a new chat

Expected result:

the problem does not occur when there is a UUID in the URL, after redirection, you find yourself on the right chat!

Actual result:

the ongoing chat is simply lost

Additional information

Browser: Google Chrome Version 116.0.5845.187 (Official Build) (arm64)
OS: macOS apple M2

The problem seems to be that in some cases when initializing a new chat, the URL is not updated with the UUID!

There are many cases where the UUID is not added to the URL:

for example, if we start generating a chat response, and stop it halfway, and then resume: the UUID is then never found in the URL...

For this example, the UUID can be added to the URL from the start, creating the chat name should be something secondary, we should not wait until the end of the chat to create the chat name and the UUID.

This problem is persistent and really destroys the user experience.

I think the problem is related to performance optimization of Google Chrome when enabled.

The problem is very simple: I work ChatGPT, I have to leave for a few hours, when I come back, I lose my work, the Chrome tab reloads, and even if there is the identifier of the current chat in the URL , this will indicate that the identifier is lost and the whole screen is redirected to a new chat!

I find this problem really annoying, I literally lose all my ChatGPT tabs, I then have to look in the history to see where my work is...

It's really annoying, and I'm going to end up not paying anymore; and use the playground

more INFOS :::

Here are several tests that I carried out:

If I open Chrome private browsing, authenticate again on ChatGPT, and then directly paste a URL:
https://chat.openai.com/c/a0797f61-2767-40a6-982e-**************
it works !

In my Chrome browser (without private browsing), I open a new tab, I paste this same URL, I am redirected to a new chat, with the error, there is clearly a problem...!

Always in my browser (without private browsing). If I click in the history, it works, I have exactly the same URL that I copied and pasted in my previous test which does not work if I paste the URL directly!

If I delete all history and all cache (everything: cookies, etc.) from my browser, I paste the URL https://chat.openai.com/c/a0797f61- 2767-40a6-982e-**************, it asks me to reconnect, after reconnecting, I find myself in the right chat thread! that works !
If I refresh the page, it works (I am, I am still on the contextual chat at the URL)!
If I open a new tab and paste the URL it works!

Now I click on join the ALPHA version
"Experience an early preview of ChatGPT in your language.
Join the alpha"

I then refresh the URL: it's over, nothing works anymore!!!
I paste the URL into a new tab, it's over, nothing works anymore!!!

Conclusion, there is clearly a problem with your alpha version...

ps: so I delete all the cache, and I stay in English...

I confirm that with Google Chrome performance optimization (the memory optimizer) and without having checked the translated alpha version it works perfectly! There is clearly a bug with your translated version...

However, I always have to go back, because I always get redirected to a new thread! But anyway, without an alpha version, I can go back, and I haven't lost my thread that was on the tab.
