Don’t be in the dark about stained glass - this colorful art form will light up your life!

Stained glass is a versatile and stunning art form with a history that stretches over a thousand years. While traditionally featured in religious buildings, it now also beautifies homes, offices, and public spaces. The medium has evolved to include intricate art-glass designs made with enamels and opalescent glass, as well as abstract patterns in faceted glass, which uses thick slabs embedded in concrete. This diverse medium enhances the beauty and atmosphere of any environment.

Some of the most famous examples of stained glass windows in the world are:

• The rose window of Chartres Cathedral in France, which was built in the 13th century.
• The 15 tall windows of Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, which were built in the 13th century by King Louis IX.
• The King Arthur and Sir Lancelot window by William Morris, which was made in 1862 and is one of the examples of the revival of stained glass in the 19th century.
• The stained-glass window by Frank Lloyd Wright, which was designed in 1912 for his own home and studio in Oak Park, Illinois, and shows his geometric style and use of natural motifs.

When making stained glass landscapes, description phrases are key to how your image turns out. Naturally, simpler prompts typically lead to simpler generations.:

Image 1: "A desert dinosaur at dusk. Stained glass."

While the first image is beautiful in its own right, I want a more ornate environment. Interestingly, when I added another topic to the prompt all of the resulting generations specifically emphasized that thing (in this case, the vines and flowers), while minimizing the previous subject (the dinosaur).

Image 2: "A dinosaur amongst the sand dunes at dusk. Hanging vines and magnolia flowers. Stained glass."

This image is closer to my artistic vision, but I dislike how the dinosaur is reduced to a simple silhouette at the bottom, since I want it to be the focus of the scene. To bring the desired subject out of the shadows, I instructed Bing's Image Creator to add colored tiles for the animal's scales, in addition to several other descriptors to achieve the desired piece:

Image 3: "A paneled stained glass landscape of a dinosaur amongst the sand dunes at dusk. Every scale is its own glass tile. Blowing sand. Hazy muted sky. Thin hanging vines, and delicate magnolia flowers. Detailed intricate tiles." (outpainted with DALL-E 2.0)

Ultimately, using different phrases to slightly modify your prompts can help perfect your generations and achieve what you are hoping for.

Stained glass has a different purpose than most. In most cases It isn't to allow a view to the outside or let light inside. It is better to say it controls the light. Stained glass windows are thus better described as 'illuminated walls'.
