Every time i send a prompt the page stop being responsive while chat is responding. i always have to exit page and refresh to get the answer. Is normal

FOr like 5 days now I have to close the tab and go back to chat.openai.com anything I prompt because otherwise it completely freezes if I leave the tab open.. even when I reopen a new tab and navigate back to chat.openai.com it is SOOO slow to load back

I'm on LAN, 1gb. Not that at all. It isn't a network issue. Chrome is even popping up the option to Wait or Close The Tab because it times out i guess?
Just sits like this... the little animated thing on the right of the text box isn't even moving... just sitting there:

If I took a video of it for you, it look just like that picture. Nothing happening. Nothing moving.
Can't right click anywhere on the page and pull up the right click menu
This is happening exactly the same on two separate systems on two separate networks where both systems are connected to 1gbps lan
And finally, just had this pop up:

Can reproduce it EVERY single time I send a prompt. If I click Wait, it just sits there and eventually pops up this dialogue again. I have to close the tab, go back to chat.openai.com and load th epage again just to see the response and then after I send the next prompt i have to again close the tab, go back to chat.openai.com in a new tab and read the new response from chat... and over and over

Exactly the same issue since two days now. And it seems to be account related... My message to support.
Hi, since 2 days my ChatGPT interface is incredibly slow. So much so that I have to reload pages every time I make a new request. This issue persists across browsers. Strangely it does not when I log in through another Google account. Could you check what's going wrong here.
Already tried cleaning most of the conversation.

Are you all getting errors in the Browser Console?

I'm not sure. I'm not able to reproduce, the issue currently on my accounts. So I'm curious if there are errors in the browser console you are seeing... or anything really that could be helpful. Does this happen on every chat or just specific ones?

Looking for anything to help me identify what is broken for ya'll.

The problem seems to be worse on Edge or Chrome, and while it repro's on Safari on the iPad, it doesn't feel as bad, but that could be subjective to my experience. It happens once you get to a certain length of your chat, which would be quite long (I do fictional story stuff, so I like to stay on one thread for context for recent items), but trying to enable browser tools to capture the network traffic causes it to hang all together.

It throws a bunch of Sentry 429 errors from what I see

Sentry 429 errors are fine. but knowing it is long conversations is helpful.

YES, i can confirm my chat is very long as well. i am using it to help me program an app, so it pretty lenghty. I tried to create a new chat and give it the link of the old chat to carry on from there but it does not work. when it comes to log in console nothing really relevant, some 400s 404 and 429 errors

Same issue here. My long conversations are having "page unresponsive" errors on desktop Chrome. On mobile, the loading time is still quite lengthy when working with these long conversations, but I don't get any "page unresponsive" errors here. It just takes a while to produce a result.

And the results pop out in chunks, rather than in ChatGPT's typing style, where letters by letters appear on the screen.

The issue only started after one of the recent updates for me. Fairly sure it also applies to long GPT 3.5 conversations too, or at least those that were converted from GPT 4 to GPT 3.5

I'd be more than happy to supply error codes and whatnot myself in case anyone needs them. I'm able to reproduce the issue consistently too, so that might be of help.

Still working on this, sorry ya'll. This one is not a simple fix so we are working on getting a fix out.

same for me. basically making using chatgpt unusable. I cant access my work (which is a very long chat) thread which I use daily. Freezes every single time i write anything in the chat. I get an error message everytime I use it making me force refresh the page.

i can comfirm i get the exact same issue but only on long conversations and in all kind of browsers need to wait and then force site to close for being able to get the answer havent been an issue before

Can confirm - only started happening the past 2wks.

  • Repro'd in Chrome, Firefox, Brave (Chromium). Win11.
  • Beastly desktop here - it's not my end.
  • The freezes trigger the browser RESULT_CODE_HUNG err catch
  • If I wait to see if it unfreezes, it actually does - after 5 to 10m. Then freezes again next prompt.
  • I'll see a few words typed responded before the freeze.
  • Loading the pages/chats takes significantly longer than it used to before this freeze started happening, too. Related?

Should be fixed now. It's still really slow on the super long conversations... hope we can fix that soon too.

But it should no longer freeze the tab

alternatively, would it be possible to take the link of the chat into a new chat as data and carry on from there?
