The api is independent from the chatgpt plus. I suggest you turn to the support on the website for help.

It was planned to 'actually' be generally available by the end of last month according to their blog article, sadly it looks like that plan has been delayed though

your screenshot shows $0.57 for july invoice.
you only recently spent $3.99, so you should expect access to be unlocked soon (assuming you paid your bill).

Do you guys have any idea when will the gpt-4 api be available for the people who don't have a pay history then ? I remember that they were mentioning it will be available at the end of the month in the late july blog post. But I still don't see anything 😦

I have usage in May, July, I know I was charged for May. Still no GPT-4.

Best answer for now, sadly, is to use an alternative service that effectively resells access to the GPT-4 API (including 32k model) currently at cost, such a service does exist but I imagine I can't say what it is here as that would likely be deemed as advertising and thus breaking a rule. This is what I use until one day OpenAI actually makes GPT-4 API generally available to all

For anyone wondering, it appears that paying for an invoice does not give you GPT-4 access. It looks like the news article may have been a one time thing. I paid an invoice this month and still have no access.

I got my first invoice/bill from OpenAI on August 1st ... for $0.00. I think my problem, shared with @humble sedge, is that I need to use API 3.5 enough to generate a reasonably sized invoice where I need to pay "maybe" over 5 bucks, and that might trigger access to GPT4.

It's sort of chicken and egg: You need to use it before they'll let you use it. But not "really". Use 3.5 enough to show you're legitimate and then you'll get access to v4 - at least until they fully open general access to v4. I'm fine with this. If it's not working like this - whatevah - I'm just sharing thoughts. HTH

I just asked via API for 30 challenging questions to give to chatgpt and then iterated through them a number of times with different temperatures, and hey presto I have now spent $1.16. Now just to wait until openai recognise my spend.

Based on above comments, it's possible that we need to spend over $5 on the API with 3.5 before 4.0 opens to us. And remember that your access may not open until after the next billing cycle, which could be in another 21+ days. I have no idea how accurate this is, just sharing a running theory.

Is it right that I have to charge 1$ or more every month to get access to GPT 4? Or is it just important for the first month?
