max amount of words / character input in chatGTP4?

Looking for a straight answer is impossible, all the hype online about chatGTP4 being to handle 10s of thousands of words per prompt is a lie.i don't care about tokens, how does that relate to real words? Anyone? As far as i can tell chatGTP4 can only handle about the same amount of words per input as GTP3. An actual answer or link to openAi documents telling me would be appreciated if anyone knows, doesn't seem like a hard question but lol

The reason it's not a straight-forward answer is because the algorithms that the AI models use don't read "words," they identify relationships between characters. However, a rough estimate is 100 tokens per 75 words, but that's not exact and it's not always true. GPT-4 has a limit of 8,192 tokens, whereas GPT-3 had a limit of 2,049 tokens, meaning GPT-4 can handle approximately 4x as many tokens. You say you don't care about tokens, but the AI models only care about tokens.

So the straight answer to your question of how many words it can handle is; there isn't a straight answer.
