NO. It is not. Anyone can take that key and use it to make API requests that you will have to pay for.
Now, I can see some hobby developer developing something and then making you go get a key and plug it in so that you are paying for your own usage. But in that scenario you are putting A LOT of trust in that developer. I just wouldn't do it, buddy. That dev could easily be pooling keys and using them all for his own purposes. Just don't.
A proper app for users would have a way for you to sign up and pay them directly. Then behind they scenes they have their own API key with OpenAI and their usage fees are just one of the expenses they have as a business/product. Nobody should be asking you for your API key and if they are DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM.
So don’t alow Second Life or Sansar Game or VR Chat users prepare boxes for collecting api keys . They are masking real purpose as naming It “using gpt ingame”
