ChatGPT as of right now CANNOT count characters for character limits. It will be inaccurate 9/10 times. Use a separate character counter after GPT provides you with your request and then shrink it down as you review it.

# glacial oak what does that mean?

It means ChatGPT sucks at word/character/token counting. Have it generate an essay and put it in a text editor to get an accurate word count. Then, either trim the essay as needed (if it's too long) or, in this case, tell it to generate a new, longer essay. Give it additional ideas in the prompt for making it longer, like tell it to be thorough in some particular portion of the essay (like history, current political climate, etc.). Work with the bot.

i had this problem about it giving me wrong number of characters for prompting. but after asking it why the mistaken happened, it seemed to understand the problem and became accurate. EDIT: i'm testing here and my BAD. GPT 4 can't count. it can't even see that it's counting wrongly.
