Wasn't Dune. Butlerian Jihad

Yeah, Butlerian Jihad was why they had Mentats

Asimov had an uncanny ability to predict the future with his stories. He predicted video calling in a 1964 op-ed, too.

"Communications will become sight-sound and you will see as well as hear the person you telephone. The screen can be used not only to see the people you call but also for studying documents and photographs and reading passages from books. Synchronous satellites, hovering in space will make it possible for you to direct-dial any spot on earth, including the weather stations in Antarctica (shown in chill splendor as part of the '64 General Motors exhibit)."

I think Old 60s Era sci-fi is still hugely relevant today. Asimov aside (great stuff) there's some awesome works out there that seem to have predicted where we are now. Fascinating stuff

starting to feel this way is a succinct way of putting it

I can picture a journalist and their assistant fabricating code and a tool to break entry

It's a wired line and conversation in my head

There's something I can't quite put my finger on

I am 90% sure it was Asimov, but I asked it for even more stories with similar themes. Some more classics in the list.

the prevalence of openai and chatgpt have left those null and void
