#ChatGPT is suddenly refusing to help with my story dealing with death and grief.

I've been working on a story to help me deal with my own grief, and hoping to turn it into the story of a game I'm working on to hopefully help others who face the seem treatment as I did. I had an outline, written with ChatGPT 3, but since the most recent update it no longer wants to help with that story, and keeps trying to save the cat. But the primary reason I want to write the story is because I couldn't save my boy.

What really made me angry was its response: "Regarding the cat's death in your story, I understand that it may be an important plot point for your narrative. However, I am programmed to provide information and assistance that is ethical and compassionate. It is important to approach sensitive topics like death in a respectful and mindful manner, even in fictional writing." So basically, I'm not ethical, compassionate, sensitive, respectful or mindful? And the only way to be any of that is to be as you dictate? I simply can't agree with that. The entire reason everybody is being hurtful to me is because we don't talk about death, we don't know how to act and respond when someone w love is griefing and suffering. So we say the cliches, not knowing how hurtful they are!

I forgot to add: at times I would ask for a summary and then the response would be the summary of a completely different story, suddenly metioning school and dealing with class mates and such, while school isn't mentioned anywhere in my story. Or the response stoped and I would ask ChatGPT to continue, but then it would start something new.

Unfortunately it's private property, not a general llm. They have "liabilities" etc.. welcome to the brave new world.

You can't get ehtical reaction out of gpt and that's how it's going to be. I'm sorry. I as well tried.

Hello @tall silo, I'm sorry for your loss. I watched an interesting video today that may help you try to come up with creative ways to get ChatGTP to help you with your game narrative. By the way, if you ever publish your game, @ me so I can check it out. :)

Apparently YouTube links aren't whitelisted so check your dms

thanks both! I'm still appalled by that response though. Instead of claiming I'm unethical, why don't they just state how they don't want to be liable. And I'm working with both a psychologist and a grief organization, but apparently ChatGPT knows better.

I would also be interested in a work around. it's far too restrictive in many things.
I wish that openai could give it more personality. doesn't have to be that restrictive, like we are not adults and can't make our own judgment.

Yeah, besides I'm working with a licensed psychologist and a grief support organisation, so it's not like I;m going in blind here.

ChatGPT the beta preview early access demo has restrictions on it's content due to the fact is is being used by everyone all over the world.

What does the API key do ? Playground doesn't seem to ask for it. Also, Playground doesn't save any history, so whenever you need to refresh the page after another network error happens again, the entire history is gone.

Also, it seems to have a 4097 token context limit. When I try to get it to analyse a 9 chapter outline, and then ask for another change, it can't. 500+ tokens over.
