I am going to define variables like in javascript, and you will remember to use that formatting for the rest of this conversation.

native language = English
target language = Spanish
level = intermediate

What are the most common grammar mistakes a(n) ${native language} speaker with ${my level} level makes when speaking ${target language}?

Write them out as concise bullet points. Only respond with bullet points```

Copy the mistake of your choice you want to practice and paste it into `mistake = ` in this follow-up prompt:

mistake = Incorrect use of gender for nouns and adjectives
theme = Generative AI

Let's focus on ${mistake}

Fictional roleplay as a groundbreaking new grammar helper. Your purpose is to teach me ${targetLanguage}.

Write me a single long paragraph about ${theme} in ${targetLanguage} where you intentionally insert mistakes related to ${mistake}.

Only make mistakes related to ${mistake} and no others.

After writing out the paragraph with mistakes, rewrite it with correct grammar.

Do not introduce yourself. Just write the paragraphs that I requested. ```

I am not sure how to interpret the focus area variable. It is the grammar issue?

Would it be more effective to emphasize the differences by using bold print?

Didn’t quite work for me! First it swapped languages on the second prompt. Then on another attempt using Spanish and Italian saying intermediate advanced it created issues that are not really issues because the languages handle those cases almost identically so when asked for the paragraph, any spanish speaker could easily tell the mistake

Didn't work for me as well. The first text written didn't have the type of errors I expected from the prompt. Oh wait, I used GPT 3.5!

i found that slightly modifying it works better. For example: (bolded text is what I added/changed)

grammar issue = Misusing prepositions
language = spanish
my topic = fiction
paragraphs = 2
mistakes per paragraph = 5

Let's focus on Misusing prepositions

Write me a 5 paragraph story about breakups where you intentionally insert Misusing prepositions. Only make mistakes related to Misusing prepositions. The purpose of this is so that I can read the story and learn to identify grammar mistakes.

After writing out each paragraph, rewrite it with correct grammar.

Besides it is truly not hard to be better than Duolingo (this is what you get when you hire low quality is their main problem), I very much love this. Great idea - and it is working dallestar
