Bug Report:

Multiple bugs included, not separating them

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Log in to ChatGPT
  2. No history (known bug). Click into prompt, type, hit enter or click paper airplane.
  3. Click Upgrade to Plus, click Upgrade Plan

Expected result:

  1. Paper airplane button is clickable. ChatGPT accepts prompt, starts conversation, and outputs results.
  2. Taken to page to pay for/upgrade to Plus.

Actual result:

airplane button is not clickable. I cannot submit prompts. This is persistent since Monday.
“Payments page encountered an error” toaster. Persistent since Monday.

Additional information

Browser: Chrome, safari
OS: windows and mac

Some of the above are known bugs, no history and payment seems to be buggy also, but it’s the combination of all of them that’s driving me nuts, especially the lack of prompt acceptance. Haven’t heard of anyone being totally bricked like this for days. I can do nothing with ChatGPT.

Their team is obviously swamped (have emailed support), but any acknowledgment would be greatly appreciated.

At this point I’m just venting. If anyone else is experiencing the same, please share.

Same for me, since about friday of last week. No history, submit does nothing and can't subscribe.

Can you open up your browser inspector > network panel and share what resources might have errored?

On the positive, I see people getting their history back, so maybe a complete fix is inbound. Was so excited by the 4 demos that I wanted to subscribe and then everything broke. Sure - looks like its throwing 500 and 429. Hold on, I'll screen shot it.

Tried that on those network tabs. It did log me out, so I logged back in (I am using google auth), but same errors are thrown.

nothing works, cookies, private browsing. Always the same problem. error on account upgrade, airplane button does not work. Unable to test with another account without another phone number.

Maybe an issue with cloudfare? (missed where you already said it was cloudfare - oops) Hope some of this helps. 🙂

I think it's account related issues. If anyone has the option try a different account on the computer than the one where you got the errors.

I believe it is an account error. I have the exact same issues as OP, but with a new account on the same pc and browser everything functions normally.

I have the exact same problem

  • I am completely unable to talk ChatGPT. Every prompt I enter results in it encountering an error
  • My chat history no longer loads at all
  • I am unable to upgrade to plus. When I click the button I get “payments page encountered an error”
  • all of these requests just give a generic 500 response when looked at in the network tab

I have tried clearing cookies, incognito modes, different browsers, different devices… all encounter same error.

Exactly the same problem.

  • Not able to interact with ChatGPT. It will only outputs:
    "Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com."
  • If I wait for a while then I cannot even click the paper plane (the send) button.
  • Chat history is still not working.

Have tried clearing cookies, incognito mode, different devices or browsers.

What tricky is that my another account (plus subscribed tho, not sure whether that matters) works perfectly fine on my current device and browser. :/

Hope it can be fixed soon, today is the fourth day.

Simply won't work.

Tried another account and it worked, no idea whats happening and i'm trying to upgrade plan also and nothing.

Hi there, got same problem but with some twists, it spams TONS of 500 errors when requesting t && t.apply(U.console, n) in chat script, and gets result "Unable to load account"

Same error here. Tried creating a new account, worked for 1 minute and bricked again afterwards. Doesn't work on my phone either

Same Issue. Happened right after paid subscription. My other account works fine without the subscription

My account, which was created yesterday using Google login, has the same issues. Despite logging in from different PCs, clearing cookies, using incognito mode, pretty much all the ajax calls result in 500 errors, or "{"detail":{"message":"Unauthorized - Access token is missing"}}"

Hi everyone, I want to know if someone has the same issue as me.
I cannot send any message. Hitting "enter" just make a new line (char return). In the console I got the error "Unable to load account" and a HTTP 500 error on GET backend-api/accounts/check.
I tried to login on various different devices and browser but nothing works. It seems that it is bound to the account somehow.
I did not broke any rule. I'm a researcher and use the tool in the developement process.

Am in the same position. Didn't want to start a new account, but this one has been in this status for a week. I guess I could, but until the bug is addressed, there is no guarantee it won't also brick, tying up another email and/or phone number to a bricked account. Seems an inefficient solution for them to have everyone starting multiple accounts if they can find the bug. Still seeing lots of reports of similar problems.

It's a @small cairn problem for sure, my microsoft based email works like a charm and also loads history etc.

I'm in the same boat... browsing the thread, but so far "create a new account" seems to be the solution that I'm seeing.

My problems started as soon as I signed up for paid API access... that seems to be part of the pattern (though the API access works fine)

as said before, creating an account should not be a solution but a workaround, some of us are using chat GPT as part of our job, we cannot create an account everytime there is a problem

FWIW I have a phone number still tied to a now-deactivated throw-away mail forward account (as of this morning). I'm not able to complete sign up with my phone number because it's tied to two accounts - work and the deactivated account. Just be warned that deactivating your account is not enough.

I use the API connection as well, but haven't asked for access to 4, as I was only using Davinci 3, so I don't think that's it. Also, seems to have hit alot of people who never use the API connection.

This is happening for me as well, just sent you a dm valerie . I think that something went wrong in the process of upgrading to plus that appears to have made my account crash multiple api calls.

My history just came back! I am able to see old conversations and submit a new one, which also appears in the history section. Hope this means an overall fix has been discovered. Was glad to find this discord and it actually has given me a ton of ideas for prompting, so I am really happy to see it back.

I have the same problem with a New Account which I wanted to Upgrade to Plus. No Chance... An old Account worms perfectly on the same machine.

This is fixed for me, if you're only getting a 500 on models, then clearing the cache / cookies resolved that 500. I am still unable to upgrade to plus, but at least my account is not bricked.

Agreed. Account is no longer bricked, history and prompt/response functioning. Upgrade plan still broken, but it seems this is an independent issue, one with multiple other bug reports posted.

By and large though, I think we can consider my original bug report closed. Account is no longer bricked.

I tried everything suggested in this thread and my history is still not back...any new conversations I am started also don't appear in the history. Honestly I don't want to make a new account because the one I am using right now is Plus, and I just want my history back I had so many long conversations that I wanted to keep going.

My account was fixed, without any cache clearing or browser changes. But the upgrade to plus button leads to an error toast.
Although very frustrating keep in mind that this is a Research preview that suddenly the entire world started using. See the project as an early access and some time you cannot do anything but wait.

Tried using a Microsoft email. Tried using an email from my own server. This isn't working for me. I can only use my phone number for ONE account. It will not let me attach the number to another one. I am seeing people be able to attach their phone number to TWO accounts, and can't help but wonder... why can't I? I have ChatGPT Plus. I have access to the GPT 3.5 API. I even created a paid account for the API. However, I can only create ONE account with my phone number. I need to create an account for my business, so that I can then delete the personal one.
