Hello, so I've working on a way to try to host a custom ip address of my choice only through the usage of cloudflare's DNS records because I used to use freenom as my domain host, but I'm unable to register for a new domain due to an outage that hasn't been fixed in months and I've been trying to figure out a way to host my own ip address for players to user to connect to my server, but the bot has been misguiding me in what I need to do for records and domains/subdomains. Every time I corrected it for saying that I can use a subdomain (hostname) as my target for my cloudflare records, it said that I had to include a nameserver, which I don't have right now. I've even asked for it to give me site suggestions for being able to host a free domain, but it continues to link me the same ones here and there after the others don't work or cost money. I was wondering if this could get looked into and if I could have some help with my problem that I've been trying to tackle for months?

Hello?

What do you mean "host your own IP address"? That doesn't make sense to me, you can't host an IP address unless you're an internet provider

@simple bear

#

I think you're confusing hosting a domain with hosting an IP

#

To host a domain, you need to first purchase the domain from a registrar, such as namecheap.com. Then, you need to transfer that domain to cloudflare by changing the nameservers on the original registrar to point to cloudflare's nameservers that they provide you

#

Then, after roughly 12-24 hours the domain will be transffered to cloudflare and you can point the domain and different subdomains to various IP addresses

#

but this is a channel for OpenAI API support, not DNS/general devops help, apologies!

I wanted to try finding a way to create a custom Minecraft ip address through Cloudflare only using an existing subdomain, which I have.

#

you're still confusing IP addresses

#

you can't make a "custom minecraft IP address"

#

you can only make a custom domain

simple bear
#

Oh

signal barn
#

IP addresses are fixed and given to you by the provider.

#

So if you have a minecraft server that has an ip of 107.234.12.34

#

you can't change that IP unless you ask the provider to change the IP

#

but you can create a DNS record that directs to that IP

#

For example, if you create an A record for test.mydomain.com that points to 107.234.12.34

I tried using a CNAME record to point towards the hostname of the subdomain, which was what people connect with currently.

#

Including a srv record.

signal barn
#

ohhh

#

you're trying to hide the port?

#

simple bear
#

Yeah

signal barn
#

by using SRV and CNAME?

#

AHHH

#

I see

Yeah, but I got an email from Cloudflare saying

Update Nameservers

Hello,

We could not add the website hypixelkfcguild.net to your account because your nameservers (NS) are not yet pointing to Cloudflare.
Update your nameservers

  1. Log into your registrar
Find instructions for your specific registrar
  2. Update your current nameserver records with the ones we have assigned to hypixelkfcguild.net:
  3. armfazh.ns.cloudflare.com
  4. suzanne.ns.cloudflare.com
Only these two Cloudflare nameservers should be listed at your registrar. All other nameservers must be removed.
