#How to teach ChatGPT - like how to forbid use of 'the letter E'

This thread is intended to help showcase how a user can teach the bot an unusual set of rules that it may have few training data examples to follow.

You should first check to see if the bot can already do the 'weird thing' you want. For example, the bot knows how to act like #1074204473628573766 . It does not need to be taught how to play that game, there's a huge amount of examples in the training data - enough that it usually confidently follows that instruction, even though this is shockingly different than the bot's usually followed ethical constraints of being kind and helpful. That role is amazingly well trained.

But let's say you ask it to not use the letter E in talking with you.

The bot will cheerfully promise not to use 'E's while using the normal quantity of 'E's to do so.

It really doesn't understand what you want. All it needs is some training - which can be done fairly fast if you are clear and specific, and highly accurate yourself in following the rule inside examples - and then you can have your own rulesets followed inside that chat. (Expect to repeat the process inside new chat windows - and training is a process it seems to need the back and forth with a user about examples. I haven't seen success with a single prompt yet.

HIGHLIGHTING IS ON MY END, I used 'find' to highlight all Es.

Things to note:

It has at least three choices how to not use 'E'

Once it understands, this time it chose to find equivalent words that didn't need the letter 'E'. I suspect that will be the preferred choice, as it doesn't break any rules, like 'spell properly'

However, it can also learn that 'mispelling' is allowed.

It can handle 'mostly follow the rule, but rarely break it'.

It can and will add extra rules, like it used phonics comprehension to start adding in new modded rules, like 'hesitate' was spelled 'hxitat' - I hadn't asked for other changes, and if I didn't want them I would NEED to catch that, be alert for it, and tell the bot about not doing it.
