There is a lot of misinformation coming from both the internet and ChatGPT. Copy-pasting any text without checking sources is often a no no, But how can one find all the claims in a long chunk of text?

--> ChatGPT (kinda)

The **prompt below is not at all perfect **but it provides a quick visualization of some elements to be checked. The prompt is not perfect because it might miss some claims. See the first few messages by OP (randuser) in the thread below for a method to extract more facts.

Prompt (The example text below was generated by ChatGPT and needs to be fact checked. Result below) :

Surround elements of text related to facts, numbers or data with double asterisks in the text below:

"As an expert advisor in the smartphone industry, I can provide insight into the best phones of 2019. One of the top smartphones of 2019 was the Samsung Galaxy S10. This phone offered an impressive display with a 6.1-inch Super AMOLED screen and a resolution of 1440 x 3040 pixels. It had a triple camera system with a 12 MP wide-angle lens, a 12 MP telephoto lens, and a 16 MP ultrawide lens. The phone also boasted a large 3,400mAh battery that could last all day, and it supported wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. The phone had 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 512GB of storage, with the option to expand the storage with a microSD card. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S10 featured an in-display fingerprint sensor for added security."

For example,** it did not highlight the** "option to expand the storage with a microSD" or "triple camera" which is something that needs to be fact-checked.

If you would like to copy paste the text with the double asterisks indicating bold text, you can ask it to provide the output in a code block and then copy the result with the copy button:

Surround elements of text related to facts, numbers or data with double asterisks in the text below. The output should be in a code block

To get better results one can take two steps for example

#

Step 1:

Provide facts from the text below:

(text)

#

**Step 2: **

After receiving a list of facts from the text ask the following

For each of the facts in your answer, surround the element in the original text where those facts can be found with double asterisks

One can then extract facts from a more trustworthy source and do the same or ask ChatGPT to provide keywords that could be used in a google search for the facts found
