I believe if anyone has already signed up from same phone number then it should show that we have consumed the free credits instead of showing 0 dollars.

Yes, the phone number has to be unique to receive the $18 in free credits
The number can't have been used by anyone else in the past, or by you in the past

No way to reset the trial period, if the trial was used up before it doesn't get reinstated

It's not used.. I had $18/$18 and now they got expired. Imagine getting these credits when ChatGPT was not a thing...

ChatGPT has nothing to do with the credits tho
those credits are only used for the API

Hello, I might slide in here and take advantage of this post as I have a similar issue. I recently created an openai account, neither used the email or mobile number before. Upon starting to play around with the API I did see the $18 free balance in my account, but after I already got ChatGPT Plus, I also added my payment information for the API. After I added the payment information however, the free credits vanished and dont show up anymore, is this expected behavior?

Yes, its my own number. I did not have a openai account before though, so i doubt it could be the case that the free contingent expired since i didnt have an account before, neither did i use my phone number in any openai context before
