quick question here: is having a Plus account not sufficient to experiment with the API? or are the 2 features (plus account and api credit) completely separate offerings?
I created a test script and called the chatgpt endpoint but I get the insufficient_quota error message on the very first call.
I have used the account associated with this email to access dall-e in the past, and the dall-e quota is indeed depleted, but that was before I got the Plus membership activated.

Yep, chatgpt doesn't have an API yet. You need to look at gpt models for the API
You may be getting nonsense code from chatgpt that is leading you to believe it can do things that are not possible

This makes so much sense. I had assumed that ChatGPT/Plus had an API as there is no visual differentiator on the Account UI/UX. Huh. I wonder if they'll bake that in at some other point. Regardless, good to know!

There are so many api users here, I need to pay more attention because I can't use it at all now. I assume they are using some other openai service?

Go to openai.com and click on API and then documentation
It's all there and there are lots of ways you can use the API

After finding this out, I will probably hold off on the ChatGPT Plus. I was hoping it would just be a subscription that I could use the API on my phone
