Hi all, I've been working on a GPT chatbot available on WhatsApp.

https://whatgpt.app

Key Features:

⭐ Nothing to install, no account to create.
⭐ Support for voice messages, transcribed using Whisper.
⭐ Automatic reply suggestions to save time on conversations.
⭐ Fact-check and do research by generating Google search links for your conversation topic.
⭐ Always free, although I do need to put message limits on free users due to API costs.

I'm actively working on this, and have plans to add new features/fixes and address any feedback 🙂

I'm already testing it and found it very interesting. The answers are summarized in short sentences, as a common whatsapp conversation should be. So far everything ok.

Can I send it voice?

#

Also, since you can already track each user by their unique phone number, can you also perform ongoing tasks for me?

For example, if I send a voicemail saying "add this to my to do list: buy apples"

Then since it knows my phone number, have it send me an email to some pre-determined email address

Thanks @hidden sand ! Yes, I tuned it to give concise answers, originally for cost reasons but it actually ends up being more useful that way imo

@atomic yacht the reason I ask about voice is cause about 3 years ago I thought about creating a food tracking app that uses voice to keep track of my food intake. The current apps for journaling suck cause you have to search, tap, click. Its painful. So I tried to find a way to build a journaling app that runs inside whatsapp - which everyone seems familiar with.

The ability to say "McDonalds cheeseburger" and have some app track this in my food journal would be incredible.

ChatGPT wasnt around 3 years ago so I didn't pursue it much. Now, however, I'm revisiting this idea - among other ideas.

I think the first gen apps using the API are mostly UX layers on top of chatGPT.

The apps that are really going to make it are ones that are purpose built for specific task areas - like food journaling.

Would love to DM you and ask more if this sounds interesting to you

Update

  • Added a share button to the menu
  • Your account gets a free permanent upgrade to messaging limits for each friend you share with
  • Will maybe add a way to share funny conversations with the chatbot in the future 🙂

WhatGPT has been updated to use the new gpt-3.5-turbo API that was released yesterday

#

Answer quality seems similar, but it's way faster now 🙂

New update: voice messaging support! You can now send audio messages to the bot, which get transcribed using Whisper.

Does WhatGPT support groups? Would be cool to, for example, in a group, when you invite WhatGPT and @mention it it would reply.

#

Anyway it's AWESOME!

Update: We're starting to add localizations for various languages, starting with Italian 🇮🇹

By default the app will try to guess your language based on your WhatsApp phone number. You can also use the Explore menu to change language. Look for more supported languages in the near future 🙂

Note that you can continue to have conversations in any language, this is just for system messages from the app itself. If you have any requests for languages, send me a message. We'd like to make GPT accessible for as many people as possible.

hey @atomic yacht how do you control the number of messages for each user, by phone number?

is it capable of sending voice messages?

It can receive voice messages (transcribed using Whisper), but currently can only send text messages. Is this something that would be desired? Personally I find text messages easier to read, than listening to audio.

Hi @dire wigeon, as I said in the original post, it's free to use but there are daily limits on the free tier to cover the hosting costs 🙂

Is this gpt 4?

Not yet, but will be as soon as we get API access!

I've seen that GPT-4 may include image support, that should be something pretty intuitive to build into WhatsApp, just by sending a photo message.

on security issues in relation to sending the request to the OPENAI server, what is necessary?

Hi! I just thought I'd share this here. The blue was the date. Purple was my name

atomic yacht

Yes, we guess the country based on your WhatsApp phone number and include it in the prompt for more relevant responses (eg: if you ask "who is the president" it should tell you the president of South Africa, and not of the US).

#

We don't use or have access to any other information besides your WhatsApp contact name and number.
