Hey all, I'm launching the first taste of https://contextable.ai

Contextable allows you to add as much context (podcast, books, papers, markdown, etc) as you'd like, coordinate it into searchable chunks, and then do all kinds of cool GPT based stuff.

The playground (https://contextable.ai/playground) has a simple example with the Lord of the Rings series. Sign up now!

Hey guys if you have any feedback or use cases you think would be cool, share them here!

#

I’m actively building now, so any feedback is good feedback

Hello,
I haven’t tried it yet. I was thinking of creating a fine tuned model only for academic papers. Since you mentioned it in the description, how does it work? Can I upload bunch of papers and it’ll give me answers based on those papers?

ashen delta
#

Yeah, that's exactly what it's intended to do. Fine tuning a lot of the time won't provide a great result -- at least in some of my experiments.

A lot of 'high quality' responses come from creative prompting + strategies for looking up keywords

#

there will be options and the ability to fine tune models based off of particular datasets, but many times its not the easiest/smartest route to getting good answers

What type of research are you referring to? What type of problems are you looking to solve?

#

If you’re looking at creating a giant data set with a bunch of related scientific documents to query for example, then this would probably be useful

Hi Jalexy,

One area where this could work is excel related contextual queries

#

For e.g a nested if statement

#

In an excel sheet

ashen delta
kind vine
#

For e.g

Small scale application
I have 12 formulae on an excel worksheet
If i tell the ai the context and description of the calculation, the ai could potentially generate formulae to use

#

Large scale application and bit more complex to implement
You have reference data in the form of Excel dashboards.

Once you have trained the ai excel Bot on wider range of Excel data/formulae (simple/medium/complex),

The AI could potentially generate worksheets and for
Formulae based on the dashboards

ah, I see. It's possible, but less likely than other use cases but it will likely come later. GPT and text-based AI aren't inherently very good at math-related things to begin with, but the code-based GPT models probably would be ok at generating excel formulas I'd imagine

#

Probably yeah

Great work your doing. Deffo handy stuff right there. When would we be able to upload docs 🙏🏿

ashen delta

I’m starting with 3 sources:

  • pdf
  • text
  • markdown

I’ll be aiming for a source every few days after that, will have a “website source”(pulls a page), twitter source, and others

Impressive work!

thanks! if any of you all find something that's a bad example/good example of something that goes wrong, feel free to post here with feedback

#

I'm actively working on data pipelines etc right now, so the playground hasn't been super high priority, just been tweaking prompts a bit

This looks great. Just what I've been looking for the past few days. Looking forward to giving it a whirl. Thanks @ashen delta

ashen delta

Definitely!

For anyone that comes in and is interested, feel free to share here or via DM your particularly use case. Interested in seeing what people are going to build/do

@ashen delta anywhere I can follow your progress on Twitter?

I don’t have twitter yet actually, but I will make at some point this week. Will post all updates here for the time being though!

Hey mate, my immediate use case is related to understanding and interrogating a technical manual. I start a new engineering role next week and have been given a 100 page operating manual (PDF) for piece of manufacturing machinery. I was hoping to gain some quick insight via summarisation, and also be able to ask specific technical questions and also be provided with answers and references to where information is stored in the manual.

Thank you 👍 I'll have to have a play with the Tesla manual in playground. May I ask how searching via this model / API differs from a ctrl+F in the document?

Few big things, some relevant for your use case, some not:

  1. The search actually does keyword matching, not searching for a specific term. Typically that means even if you don’t search for exactly the right thing, you get a result (ie, if you search for a term related to your topic, you’re likely to get terms related to the topic)
  2. It applies GPT to whatever the results are — ie it summarizes a the shorter list of results and gives you an actual answer instead of just taking you to the term
  3. You can actually query any doc in your own lang (Spanish, French, English) work best — and it can translate the response for you with no extra effort
#

You can also reliably follow up on searches, so for example if you search for something and get results, but want more detail on a subject, you can follow up by saying: “page 87” and it will give you more details narrowed down about that page

Interesting! I actually tested using that example and it gave the right answer. Might need to tune the prompt

Additionally, since PDF documents are published by the original authors, there is less room for mistakes to be made. With ChatGPT, users can search for specific topics they need to learn or access, making the process much more efficient and user-friendly.

We're getting close! Finishing out the build today for PDFs, we should be launching the alpha and sending emails/links out late today/tomorrow if all goes well

Sorry for the delay all — been pretty busy with work and trying to get it all right before we go.

Hey everyone! I just released an Alpha preview over at https://contextable.ai

Obviously there's going to be glitches and problems, I would suggest not uploading personal data, things you don't expect to get wiped out in the near future etc.

Let me know what you think. It's currently having problems with PDFs > 4.5mb or so, I should have that fixed tomorrow.

Hey everyone! thanks for trying the app out if you have already. I just released some changes today:

  • A few people had 'stuck' pdfs in sources. I unstuck them, and they should be available now. If your source is still 'loading' after a refresh then let me know
  • Unlimited PDF upload size
  • minor UX changes

Hey everyone, exciting news today. I just launched audio/video. Be warned, it does take more time than the PDF source, but you can now upload almost any modern audio/video format and have it transcribed/loaded as a source.

Hey everyone! I've been out of comission for a bit, but I'm back at it. I was out for the last few weeks, but chipping away at quickly rewriting my data pipeline. It should be way faster. I did have to reset sources etc.

On my immediate roadmap right now is:

  • Chat memory
  • Markdown, websites
  • SMS chatbot
