I like it. It gave me some good date night recommendations.

#

I asked it for restaurant recommendations. It would be nice if the restaurant results were clickable to google maps or something.

Hi

#

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a man named John. John was a simple man with few possessions and a kind heart. One day, John was walking through the village and noticed a peculiar old man. This old man was standing by a rock, poring over what appeared to be a mysterious book.

John was curious and asked the old man what he was doing. The old man replied that he was researching something called the knowledge of the gods. John was intrigued but wary. He had heard stories of such knowledge and the power it could bring, and was not sure if it was something he wanted to pursue.

The old man offered to show John the knowledge of the gods, but warned him that it was dangerous and should be treated with care. He promised that if John could prove his dedication and commitment to the knowledge, he would be allowed to learn and harness it.

John accepted the challenge and the old man began to teach him. Each day John learned a little more, gaining insight into the secrets of the gods. He was amazed at the power and knowledge he was granted and was determined to use it for the benefit of others.

John soon became a local hero and the people of the village knew him as an honest and generous man of great wisdom. They often sought his advice and guidance in difficult times, and he had become quite renowned for his wisdom.

Deployed a light chatbot Telegram build, using Davinci-003 + Heroku:
https://t.me/vacay_bot

Sometimes it'll get confused and give an empty response, so use the command "/reset" to refresh context. Conversation automatically resets after 2k tokens. It likes to pretend it can make reservations but it's just text generation (for now).

Ugh, I’m aware of that bug and have been prioritizing a fix - sorry about that.

The site got like 2k visitors overnight so it’s been frustrating not to have Google Sign-in. But once it’s working, I’m planning to email current members in case they wish to switch over. Hopefully we find a solution by today, thanks anyways for signing up.

No worries! Glad to hear you are working on a fix. I was able to use the tool to find a really nice city outside of Budapest that's only a 50 minute drive! It's a city very similar to Venice and is dubbed "The Venice of Hungary" accordingly. I plan on taking the wife there, so thank you!

Oh wow, that’s awesome! Really glad it’s been helpful. We can’t see any of the prompts/generations so I appreciate you for sharing that.
I was in Budapest this time a couple years ago, such a beautiful city (especially in the Winter) - Enjoy your mini-trip!

@sage sapphire Google Sign-up is good to go as of this morning. Let me know if you want to switch over and I can delete your previous sign-in details, or reach out to support@usevacay.com

Flagging/fine-tuning is definitely something we want to implement soon, we’ve already had a few messages noting irrelevant (even erroneously dangerous) recommendations so it's a big priority.

Right now the quality/accuracy is maybe 75-85% of where we want it to be, depending on the prompt - so we want to make it easy to refine the model with in-line feedback + upvote/downvote, similar to how ChatGPT works. We’ll give updates on these new releases as soon as we can, but regardless thanks for the suggestion.

Very cool - I spent a few years traveling and tested this on my itineraries. Works well for destination recommendations, though itinerary timelines are pretty unreliable.

Seems like a very strong use case for travel ads – both as a recommendation engine and to cover API costs. What do you think of a format that adds some sponsored trips to the results?

Wow that’s a cool idea. I’m very curious what will be possible if/when we’re able to embed our own links into a GPT-3.5 model, but I had not thought of individual chatbots for each operator. Conversational AI can solve a lot of the friction for travel discovery, planning, booking, etc., so that would definitely be useful. That’s something to think about.

We 100% want to create better visibility for these tour operators and give them space to promote their operations.
If you visit https://www.usevacay.com/epikdrives, you can check out an example view for a more focused collection - featuring an independent tour operator who we think puts together really quality itineraries. (Supercar drives throughout Europe, self-drive ranging from ~$5-15k per car).

# torpid kiln I'm looking out my window at grey winter NYC, and I've got to say, a supercar to...

That’s what I’m saying.. Some of the best European roads do close during the Winter months, but yeah they looks like great trips from a well-run organization. At one point they planned to expand into Japan but bringing that to the USA would also be great.

Currently, the chat feature is mostly just a supplementary tool we thought could be useful at the general level. If we have enough collections/internal links to put into a model, that’s a possibility. But embedding external links from the large meta- search booking/engines, also offers an opportunity. I expect others to make an attempt in this sector, so for now we think superior curation offers a viable point of differentiation for the website. We didn’t expect much usage yet but it got shared around after posting here.. More coming soon.

Yeah, sourcing agencies/affiliates for the long tail of search queries is very hard. I have travel blogger friends with the same problem.
The alternative is to highlight your curated agencies when relevant, then fill in the gaps with ads targeted to the user's query.
Google doesn't allow their ads on AI-generated content, so I've been working on a google ads alternative specifically for AI sites

patent anchor
# torpid kiln Yeah, sourcing agencies/affiliates for the long tail of search queries is *very*...

That’s true, there're a lot of operators/agencies out there but most of their business is driven through word-of-mouth, search is dominated by the mega-booking sites and antique call-to-book travel agencies.

We also think there’s somewhat of a negative connotation with the traditional term of ‘vacation package,’ and generally a lack of trust over agencies scraping out their margins by upselling travelers with mediocre bundles. However, quality trip builders can justify the premium bc they (should) have location-specific recommendations and take care of the planning/logistics/scheduling. And now younger travelers have grown to prefer to have their reservations/bookings handled for them, so that’s one of points of friction we’re aiming to bridge.

Word placement within a model should be a viable strategy, if there’s enough scale and ways to track clicks/conversions - so that sounds like a great idea to work on.

@patent anchor I filled out the form on your site for "work with us". I have a private jet sharing mobile app about to launch in beta. We are gona build something like this. No need to reinvent the wheel since you have a good start on it. I have a few unique ideas about this and would love to collab if you are open to it.
