Setting word limits

Every time I ask the AI to write me something and I set a word limit, it always exceeds the limit. I have been trying to get it to write me something that's 200 words long or slightly less. It does 400 or more every time. I've asked it in several different ways, still cant figure out a workaround.

after in generates a 400 word text, have you tried asking it to shorten it to 200 words?

Yes, it just rewrites the 400 words once again.

I asked it, it made it 100 words, and not 200.

Maybe if i ask it to shorten by 100 it will shorten the 300 to 200.

that's really weird, Id try regenerating the response that took it down to 100 words and see if it interprets it differently

I tried this, it does not work.

I have tried pretty much everything, so unless their is a specific command they will need to fix this.

You can’t specify token limits on generation for ChatGPT I’m afraid

What you can do is to motivate it to construct shorter replies. Adding the words “succinctly”, “directly”, “in simple terms” to the command might help
