I have a wonderful idea- create a basic game with ChatGPT as the base AI for the NPCs. There doesn't even have to be a game, per se, just a world for the AI to run in. The users could interact with them in some way. For inspiration, watch the movie Free City, especially the end. Just create a world where a bunch of NPCs live.
#Game with ChatGPT NPCs

Someone sent here a message about trying to get ChatGPT to run as a DM, I think it's a somewhat comparable task.
I can think of two possible ways to approach this:
- creating a "chat" for each NPC and just have each one act on prompts.
- creating a single "chat" that runs the entire world
I have no idea which would be easier
Yeah I was thinking a cool concept for a game would iAmNPC. Where you play a non-player character and have to converse and barter with annoying "hero" characters all day long. Basically just reversing the typical rpg or mmo.
Has anyone made progress on this? We’re thinking of using the world concept and I’m starting to stitch a few things together.
Im interested
how can i make this
Not possible with GPT-3. It cannot learn anything about your game.
Also extremely expensive even if you got the NPC to say relevant things.
AI is not good enough. Wait 10 years.
Nothing is impossible
You should never break someone "dream"
Always look forward
keep grinding warrior
stay hard brother
10 years 🤣
more like a couple days
if those models were opensource
and not payment gated
u could have your own server
and it would not be expensive
unfortunately "open"AI is no longer open like they claimed to be in begining
time to look at Azure stack?
I'm fine-tuning and working on an MVP version now, will keep you updated
Can we not train these models? I haven’t explored much tbh just using their free api mm
You can train, but u can never download them
They are even restricted and censored
So sometimes if you want them to act a certain way for example as a NPC that is evil
They wont because they are restricted
Whoch is plain stupid
I programmed once a npc that is a killer

We are committed to fostering a positive atmosphere and have implemented additional filters to block any inappropriate or disruptive language and topics.
Reminder: Refrain from bypassing the AutoMod filter as per server Rule #10.
Fr lol welp, I’m late to the party in a way XD when it wasn’t censored and people had fun creating malware payloads and stuff haha
Well it’s still pretty good but yeah
Anyway. I had some ideas to implement but got no co devs. Would anyone be interested in collaborating on a project together ?

Sweet I’ll dm you later then?
sure
this is why i wish i was a dev lmao
There is a game called AI Roguelite on steam. It costs something like 10$. Its a game entirely generated by ai. Its very much just a tech demo and not a very good game but its fun and interesting. Maybe something you could look at for inspiration.
Adding on to existing similar projects, https://twitter.com/RatherGoodGame This guy created a project last year where he put AI chat NPCs into his game
This is an interesting concept. Can the NPCS interact with it's natural world and understand thier surroundings?
hi my name is math a] i can type very fast
aka Rimworld but ai controlls the colonist
A Language model shouldn't be playing a game. Do you mean a game where the dialog/quest/story line is generated by ChatGPT or just an A.I. playing it's role as an NPC?
Implementing a LLM like ChatGPT to generate a story line and quests is for sure the future of gaming. Reactive story telling based on the world and a unique experience for every single player.
Imagine a game like Rdr2, with deep reinforcement learning models for NPCs and animals and LLM like ChatGPT for the dialogs and quests. Will be hard to beat.
Unity MLAgents is a really nifty tool for making games with AI, I used it for a uni project and it was fantastic. I should've mentioned this before
Speak to Animaca Labs about the idea
Yo! just found this thread... I have some gaming meets AI related ideas
a semi-controlled RPG that still has a DM to sort of guide things along, and players are given choices but their characters act on their own in a generative world
im currently trying to use ai to generate a whole vr optional game rn so far ive got the ideas i just need to use chat gpt to script everything just so much debugging ;-;
Very interested, did you manage to pull it off?
What about handling what NPCs say?
(In something like a text based adventure)
If anyone here is interested we can start building a dataset around the idea.
