#Electronic engineering is fun until you

I reserve thinking for Tuesdays.
Hahah
Oh, I suppose so, and keeping FM radio sounding nice, etc.
Ah I see
I've designed and built many things, best of which is a GPS tracking system. What are you into?
Complex system theory at the moment
Hopefully you get to use such knowledge in the real world, someday.
But I have many years experience with music production, analog and digital sythesizers and things of that sort
I stay away from music, as I have no talent for it.
Er. I listen to music. I just don't try to create or modify it.
GPS tracking sound like a lot of math
Not at all. It's simple, in concept. Throw a GPS receiver, microcontroller, and radio tranceiver in a box. Voila.
Hahah sounds like engineering
Indeed. Not related to baking bread.
Solderless breadboards are great.
Note how I cut wires to the right length. I like being tidy.
But I haven't done electronics for a long time. I'm far more into programming.
Ooo cool
This is what I've been working on for the past 5 years.
Damn chess engine?
What stack?
I don't understand the question. Stack?
Oh like what languages ect
QB64
what thats crazy
QB64 is BASIC that's translated to C++, then compiled. So, easy to develop with yet very powerful.
I'm 65. I've learned and lost a dozen languages, so I'm tired. I stick with what works.
Ah ok i see
Yeah makes sence
I dont like bloatware nevertheless not because of runtime but just mental clutter for the user
Have you done anything fun with electronics or programming?
What does this do btw some kind of graphical thing?
What does the circuit on the breadboard do? Not much. It's a thermometer.
Oh hahah thats a lot of chips for a thermometer
is it like super acurate or something?
How else does one digitize and display the output of a thermistor?
Good question. Ive only done a couple small things like finding primes as fast ass possible in both python and C++ and making a super basic website.
Ok i see its an interface as well
I made a white noise generator using an fpga that was kinda fun
An example of a "fun" project, a weird clock. I like the wave effect between it displaying day/month and day of week.
LEDs arrays are also fun - reacting to music like an oscilloscope or scrolling text.
Ooo that was cool
I love playing around with this digital modular synthesizer callled vcv rack
So you don't use plain vanilla chips like the 4001, 4011, 4013, and 4069 much?
(Or their TTL equivalents.)
Lisajous pattern, I believe that's called.
nope. Maybe il need them in some project but as is obvius: allmost everything can be done in software these days
A microcontroller eliminates a lot of chips too.
Wow never knew there was a name for that kinda thing
yeah
Gee thanks for the word i found this cool thing now
Yeah i guess
Do you have a goal in mind, something you intend to do after your studies?
Theres like an ifinite amount of these kind of things out there which is cool but also kind of annoying in a way haha
Or will you just be happy with a well-paying job?
Thats what I wish so deerly to figure out
It is difficult with so many choices.
Yeah super dificult
I still have 3.5 more years to go if i want to finish my integrated master in EE
And whatever you invent, if you ever do invent something, will be copied by the Chinese and sold for 1/10 your price. π
And that really make me feel uneasy
yeah exactly
Where in Norway are you?
Or whatever fantastic idea i could come up with its 99% of the time either thoutgh of before and in use today or been tested and proven not to work
Trondheim
Is that near Tromso?
No how so? I was born in TromsΓΈ and kind of anto go there to study complex systems
I collect pictures of interesting architecture. A church in Tromso is almost everything I know of Norway.
Ah.....and that your country has been wise with money earned by offshore oil wells.
I know that church!
Well, lucky you. π
Yeah I feel so lucky in that sence
How about you where in north america are you from?
Yeah thats the one
Hahah what a "hip to be square" city
All places in civilized countries are pretty much the same, I suppose.
Yeah i guess Norway would look similar of it wasnt for the crazy terrain
Canada likely has similar areas, on both coasts.
Any underated universities in Canada you know of?
I've been out of the academic world a rather long time.
Like many people these days, if I was hiring the university a person went to wouldn't count for much. What matters is what a person has done on their own time.
I studied Mathematics, but I did some fun courses - philosophy, music appreciation, physics, etc.
Yeah i know thats alo something i keep thikning about
I'mn self-taught when it comes to programming and electronics.
I am concidering doing mathematics bachelor as that would probably be the hardest thing for me to be self taugth in
I have never used the math I learned at University in the real world.
But my parent and friends mostly reply kind of anctiusly when i tell them
Studying for exams is REALLY NOT my thing. Thats not how i learn the quickest at all. I learn from projects
One thing a degree does tell prospective employers is that you're not a quitter, that you follow through.
But some employers WOULD say "You should have quit learning that useless stuff earlier".
Those employers I need to find then
Elon Musk π
Most of my career I've been a database programmer. It isn't much fun, but it paid well.
I can imagine
How do you feel about these bots taking over or atleast assisting heavily
I am pleased to see it happening in my lifetime.
Mankind will be free to focus on the arts - making music, painting, literature.....
I know
Its just...
How... and what to do about having a purpose and a stable income and a family etc
The transition may be painful, but the end is Utopia.
I expect many countries will introduce UBI (Universal Basic Income).
Yeah ant this "painfull transistion" is when I establish a family and you retire
To put it super blandly
And some companies will grow to be the controllers of it all?...
Indeed, your timing is terrible. Return to the womb for a couple decades. π
Hahah I love youre type of humor π
I don't think any company can "control" AI.
Maybe I should just rush into a stable job and family and then be on the same page as you hahah
If access to AI via one company is too expensive, other companies will pop up to compete.
Most of the research is, after all, published.
Yeah you said it well there
I'm going outside for a smoke.
Ok see ya later?
Unga bunga wunga.
Is that caveman language?
Yes, it is. Shaving is a waste of time.
Nope. Who is she?
I'm not going to learn any new language.
Sure just wanted to tell you about it π
BTW, doing fun things can sometimes be profitable. I got into GPS tracking because I'd done a bunch of map programs for fun, a friend knew of GPS, and he thought it'd be a good business to get into.
Google Maps didn't yet exist.
Yeah...
Tell me about some fun project in some new emerging tech sector that isnt allready saturated
You can always put a clock on an existing device. π
Shoelaces don't have clocks. There's an opportunity......
hello
Indeed.
hello
Ooga-booga.
forget where your keys are; would investing in a small project computer like the Raspberry Pi be a good start for tinkering?
I reckon so - or the Arduino.
