Continuing from @rose chasm's earlier comments about the rule of thirds:

The first image was created using v2.Exp. I liked the general style, but felt the composition, with the mountain man directly centered in the frame, was lacking. I used DALL-E to outpaint the scene around the figure, placing the character on a vertical third and the hill on a horizontal third (lines on the last image added by me for reference). This significantly improved the composition of the illustration and helped further develop the setting and mood.

This is something that makes DALL-E an incredible tool when developing a piece's composition—the image is not bound to the original frame, unlike traditional photography. You can expand images to accurately express your artistic vision for maximum impact!

I love adding "expressive oil painting" and "phenomenal colors" to some of my prompts due to how creative and whimsical the outputs can be. For this image, I started with the person's head with an emphasis on the headphones in my prompt. Then, I cropped the image to 60% its original size and outpainted on all 4 sides back to 1024 x 1024 pixels. This gave me a zoomed out version of the person and their headphones. After that, I just outpainted the torso a little to clearly define the arms!

I don't remember the exact prompts I used for this outpaint as it's fairly old, but I do remember the artist I used in the prompts. John William Waterhouse was a phenomenal painter in the late 19th/early 20th century. He primarily painted women from Greek Mythology and various legends. Dall-E has a strong correlation with his name and paintings of women from my experience. I highly recommend adding him to some of your prompts to see what how your outputs turn out!

Dinosaur Oatmeal

The first generation for this image was the flower goddess' face. Then, I shrunk the image down using an online image resizer. Once I had the image around 60% its original resolution, I uploaded it into the editor to outpaint on all sides of it. After a bit of tweaking, this was the final result! I'm very pleased with the consistent style I was able to keep with all of the generating that went into this.

It is for the moment a big challenge with the AI to make portraits without them being deformed or that the characters do not have 3 legs, 4 arms, 2 hands with 15 fingers etc.
Very often, the chosen background composes the photo by merging with the subject and influences it a lot.

When you're prompting for a portrait, you will always get better results from being more specific about what you're envisioning. Instead of "a portrait of a beautiful woman" (image 1), try defining as many physical and/or emotional characteristics as you can.

If you enjoy the randomness of generating vague prompts, like I do, you can avoid specific characteristics by focusing on emotion and action to describe facial features: "a portrait of a young woman, loose hair, friendly eyes, smiling at the camera" (image 2)

However, I do find that simple descriptions of the physical characteristics will yield better results: "a portrait of a young woman with freckles, curly red hair and warm brown eyes, smiling for the camera" (images 3 & 4)

When i was little, my dad went on a trip to Africa (I don't remember which country exactly) and when he returned he brought home a helicopter made from iron wire. This helicopter had incredible detail and if you spun the rotors on the top, the rotors on the tail would spin as well. It was a trinket he bought from some locals who would make and sell toys out of iron wire. The prompt reminded me of that helicopter so i tried to recreate it.
