Borzoi Chronicles Chapter 1 : Feeding Time

It's 9 in the morning. The Borzoi wakes up, smelling the scent of steak. It sees its human cooking on the stovetop.

It is curious. It stands up, stretches its limbs, and walks over with great anticipation.

The human notices that it has woken up, and smiles. It greets the Borzoi and yawns. "The human must still be sleepy", the Borzoi thinks to itself. So the Borzoi fakes a yawn.

The human grins and laughs a bit, having taken interest in the Borzoi's actions.

"It's feeding time" the human says. The Borzoi hears it and wags its tail in happiness.

The human prepares the dog's meal. Shredded-up steak mixed with dog food. The Borzoi's favorite. The dog, knowing that its meal will be its favorite, circles around its human and barks. It is hungry.

The human expected such movements, and tells the dog to sit. The Borzoi does as it is asked, and its food is placed in front of it.

The human pats the Borzoi and allows it to eat. The dog happily walks forward and eats its meal alongside the human.

It is a great day.

Borzoi Chronicles Chapter 2 : The Apocalypse (Part1)

It has been 25 days since the war started. The nuclear fallout is still present in most parts of the world, save for the North and South Pole, which are quickly melting down.

The borzoi wakes up next to its human, scared for what's to come. It sees that the human is still asleep, lightly breathing in an attempt to keep the oxygen levels at a normal rate.

The dog stands up and looks at its surroundings. It's another day within the confined spaces of the bunker. It walks around, looking for its next meal, finding a half-consumed can of tomato soup. It eats the soup slowly, savoring whatever flavor it can get from the almost expired soup that the human opened two days ago.

The borzoi hears a slow dragging of clothes behind it. It's the human, waking up. The human sees the dog and smiles, then calls it over. The dog follows its owner's wishes, and slowly walks over until it arrives right in front of the human, and sits on their lap.

The human caresses the dog's head, assuring it that everything will be okay. The dog responds with a whimper, wishing that its human stays strong.

The dog falls asleep on the human's lap, with them smiling, knowing that any day could be their last. The human thinks of all the experiences they had with the dog, their laughs, their cries, their play chase in the backyard.

The human feels drowsy. They know that they became too tired to even move a leg, and hopes that the last can of soup would be more than enough for the dog until rescue arrives.

The human slowly reaches for a nearby radio and turns it on. They don't know how many days it has been since they last checked, let alone what time it currently is.

Static. They check the other frequencies for human activity. Still, nothing came up. It must be the end, they thought to themselves. They turn it off and go back to sleep, breathing ever so slightly.

Later, banging is heard from the doors.
