What are the rules for custom URLs in nav items?

I'm trying to add nav items for contact urls in my Header and or Footer globals. I get why say a tel:nnn... url isn't accepted, but my whatsapp url looks pretty standard to me:

https://wa.me/+276nnn911?text=Hi.%20Isometext%20more%20about%20your%20services.

It isn't accepted even without the . at the end, but it works fine in the website I'm trying to migrate to Payload.

What is the exact error you're seeing? The default fields from our website template in Header/Footer allow pretty much anything in them since they are just a text field
