React hooks not working in custom field component. Crashing

I'm having some trouble using regular react hooks such as useEffect and useState in custom React UI field components.

Payloads hooks work but any native react hooks make the app crash.

We should be able to use them there right? I can't work out what the issue might be and it's driving me a little crazy 😅
