To show that you are elite veteran survivor, the longer you live in game time the more your body will show its wear. Whether you get your injuries from bullet wound and you survive? Scar it in that location as permanent. Zombie chomp on your leg or arm? You survive? Scar it as nasty chew mark.
Blown up on something or glass frament cut your face...scar it with sutures...I think its better then tattos even in game. Imagine your story would be told by your presence around players without speaking. Ofcourse all those recoveries must be made..those injuries must be critical to obtain and manage to nurse yourself up...
Possible injuries and type of scarring:
-exit wound from sharp object
-fire arm
-explosion
-barbwire or any cutting injury
-bite marks
-blunt traumas to face( broken nose)
-nail traps
-any stitching to nurture deep unknown wounds
