#Make civilian clothes worth using

To me (personally and subjectively) it feels like 95% of DayZ/ Scum players look like the super-duper- mega CIA blackops operator, being geared in all the latest and greatest tacticool gadgets.
Sure, to some it looks cool, but to me it just looks like action hero dress up. Just not for me.
I´d love to see civilian clothing being at least as good or in some instances even better than the military gear.
Just take a look into your dressers and closets at home and figure out what you´d wear in a post apocalypse survival scenario.
I´m pretty sure that some of yall have a pair of boots and a fishing /hunting vest that have stood the test of time and hoodies and jackets that keep you warmer and dryer than any military surplus.

EDIT: It´s about making civilian clothing worth using. Not that there should ONLY be civilian stuff available.
Civilian AND military gear should be in the game. But there is no reason for civilian CLOTHING to be worse than the military stuff.

^ not me but just a random picture from the internet

I loved having a variety. Civilian clothes, but military gear.

In DayZ I rarely used military gear and always stuck to the civilian stuff. Not everyone wants to look like a Special Forces soldier.

As an example. This is my DayZ gear. Mostly civilian stuff with military pants and a military belt.
It absolutely works for what I do in game, being a nomadic hunter.
I think, personally and subjectively, it looks way more immersive than all the camo / completely black stormtrooper looking loot goblins roaming the lands

Yeah but what if you were military, law enforcement before the apocalypse? Then you would have that gear. Also if you break into military or police zones you can get that gear

It's about making civilian gear worth using, not to not make LEO or military gear available.

He is right guys. Civilian Clothing is not worse than military clothes! And hunter clothing too!

I guess there will be civ clothing. Potential problem I see here is that civilian clothing may be significantly worse than military stuff.
Thing is that civilian clothing is just as good, or at times even better than military surplus.

In dayz I would have camo pants civilian shirt and bandanna with a cowboy hat

#

Wait I’m confused, are you saying you want to make it worse than military?

No. I say that there is the chance that developers will make civilian clothing worse than military stuff.
I want civilian clothing to be as good or at times better than the army stuff.

Oh I’m sure they will make it good, but as far as better? I don’t know maybe yes like fur jackets for winter may be better than a regular military jacket

But realistically military/leo clothing should have more tactical space slots but like in dayz there are some regular jackets that have 45 slot like a regular military jacket

So I’m sure they’re going to do good

Civilian clothing doesn’t have to be inferior just because it isn’t military.
Good civilian clothes can be durable, warm, weather-resistant and practical too.
Workwear, hunting gear, outdoor clothing or heavy winter clothes can absolutely hold up in a survival scenario.

Military gear should have its own strengths, sure. But civilian gear should be just as viable instead of automatically being the worse option.

#

Military gear can still be better for combat, storage space, attachments or tactical use. But civilian gear should have its own strengths too, like comfort, warmth, weight, lower profile, quieter movement or just better immersion.

I’d rather see trade-offs than one obvious best choice.

#

So yeah, I can definitely see the point here. Very nice suggestion.

#

Civilian clothing can also be more durable than military clothing, depending on what kind of clothing we are talking about.
Good workwear, hunting gear, outdoor clothing or winter gear can be extremely tough and practical in a survival setting.
Military gear should not automatically be treated as the superior option in every category.

I´ve worn both, military and civilian. Thank god, my military days are over.

As soon as the first paychecks came in I bought civilian boots, gloves, winter hat, socks, a vest ( we didn´t have vests but webbing that was just awefull to use and uncomfortable to wear), a tube scarf, fleece cardigan.
Many people I know bought civilian stuff because the military issued equipment was just shit.

As for immersion.
I want my character to look like a survivor in a post apocalypse not like a soldier.
