A pandemic is not a "over in 48 hours" situation and prepping being a real thing, how about hiding backpacks and storage cases all over the world. Not the kind of neon yellow Far Cry style backpacks you can see from a mile away, but really well hidden pvc pipies burried in the ground, backpacks stuffed in tree trunks, boxes and cases under manhole covers.
Imagine people hiding and stashing things they intended to pick up at a later time but never came back to do it.

for example.
Burry a pvc pipe in the planters in a greenhouse. The only indicator that there is something burried would be a patch of desturbed soil or a soda can next to the greenhouse door.
Let people search for the stashes but also make it worth their time and effort
not a bad idea but when you got spots like this that aren't random people hot camp them and people will be running around with tons of loot maybe they could balance it with it not having loot in it 100 percent of the time. but it's similar to day z if you got a area you know in day z that has the same loot in it all the time people will camp these areas and avoid other areas making places feel dead. unless they randomize it. completely that's why loot randomization is super huge in a game like this to keep it fresh for example if you know a store is always promised to spawn a water bottle in it when you start people will rush that spot. and leave other places empty never to be explored. i like the idea but idk how they would balance something like this.
I was thinking about that this morning, when people were talking about different gun/weapon types in different areas. i.e. more high powered weaponry in military bases, etc. But then I was like, what about "preppers", ex military, etc who have an underground bunker of sorts, with rations, ammo, weapons, gear, etc. Would be pretty cool.
I've not thought about the PVP aspect and you are right, there will be people camping the known hidden spots.
I don't play PVP so that really slipped my mind.
I guess it would be like in DayZ.
People camping Police stations and kiosks to kill fresh spawns.
Random loot generator could help. Or a loot rotation system that just reshuffles the loot every 3-6 hours?
yeah it would be rough but if they could balance it would be cool
RANDOM THOUGHT ! as map is only 64km maybe 4 on server at a time and maybe 12 possible locations. loot very from small time prep to end of time military nut case good way to make a specific item more challenging to get.
Even if they were random, there's obviously only so many locations you could have. People would just memorize them and that would be their daily loot run because in at least 4 of em, you'll find not only a great weapon but everything else you would need.
Players do this already on their own, I always have several stashes on DayZ scattered about the map where I put my really high end gear.
I´m not talking 4 stashes on 64 KM2.
I´m talking 30+ stashes on 64KM2.
One stash for 2km2 is not too much and everyone would get a fair chance of finding it.
Don´t think SCUM or DayZ. Think Stalker
People would camp and circle them. Boohoo. People always camp and circle points of interrest. That´s just how it is.
Problem I see is: PVE, Coop and singleplayers seem to be a secondary thought to many of the players base.
For every idea there is the argument that people will abuse, exploit or misbehave.
May be a problem for public servers, but not on a server I run for myself or to play on with my friends.
I could see it containing maybe some food or meds, but not weapons or high end gear.
I'm no american, so please take this with a shovel of salt. Assuming I'd be american and would burry stashes for a EOTW scenario:
1: Fire starting materials. Storm matches/ BIC lighters+ fuel tablets
2: sterile bandages+ desinfection alcohol
3: Cookies/ crackers/ military dry freeze rations
3: fishing hooks, line, sinker, lure
4: Multitool with sharpening stone
5: Hand crank flashlight
6: Water purification/ life straws
7: Inexpensive pawn shop/ private sale gun like a EAA Windicator + 1 box of vacuum sealed ammo
8: Some kind of valuable, silver dollars or such
9: Pain medication and antibiotics. Even if they are past their "use before" date it's still better than nothing.
10: Something comforting like a pack of cigarettes or a small bottle of booze.
11: dry socks, wet wipes, hand soap, towel, toothbrush and tooth paste.
@cold solar It’s not uncommon for preppers in the US to do this
Thought so. If I'd prepare stashes, i'd calculate about 500-600$ per stash. Most expensive item would be the gun, that's why I'd go for second hand, no paperwork stuff.
@shell coral I know someone who put a mini-14 rifle and some ammo wrapped in plastic sheet in PVC pipe and sealed it like a plumber would and buried it for 5 yrs. When he dug it up and rifle and ammo was as good as the first day he buried it
I understand, but you can't hit a stash spot irl multiple times.
