is there anything from stopping me from adding a 4.4 character into a working 4.0 server? like finding the data files from a 4.4 download of the game - pasting it in with the info to the right files - and loading them into the game? i couldnt find anything about this working or not?

No, there's no info or tutorials because in simple terms, it's not doable
Nothing stopping you from doing it if you really know what you're doing, and have the ability, but for the great majority of people it is not possible

Adding the resources to the server is easy stuff, nothing special about it. Modifying and repacking game bins is where you need the knowhow. To be fair, someone who knows more about blk repacking may say it's simply not possible entirely. But just from what I know, as long as you have the data and know what you're doing, you should technically be able to add the data to the blks and repack them.
Wouldn't be surprised if even doing so doesn't work properly, but no harm in trying other than using up your own time to do so
