A minimal HUD is usually a good thing but mostly because its a lot of information that matters little for actual gameplay. Considering the type of game this will be it would be helpful to see the following.

Time of day
Name and caliber of the equipped weapon
Wind direction
Weather type
Temperature (for survival mode, if we get it)
Ammo count
Objective
Scent duration/timer with actual numbers

I have to admit something here, since play Outer Worlds 2 I've realized I love having the ability to make the hud displays much smaller and placing them more toward the corners of the screen.

I agree, Thermometers at cabins and camps…also compasses, sports watches, portable gps, or a phone with weather the map encyclopedia as gear you could buy so you could be as minimal or have more tools at your disposal…could add a weapon inspect feature to visibly check ammo with an inspection system could implement weapon cleaning for peak performance

I really like the use of actual tools rather than an obtrusive UI. I really enjoyed the wind indicator in theHunter: Classic for example when not relying on weather cues to gauge wind direction.

A more immersive system like in the survival game Green Hell where your inventory is your pack and physical maps / GPS or your watch can hold player info in place of a UI would be great.
