Add option for manual chambering, requiring the press of the reload button to cycle a new round with a bolt action rifle, to pump the shotgun, etc.
I do not want to mention competition here but one other hunting game I know has it and it is a great simple feature for immersion.

Honestly that’s one of my favourite features from CotW.
Make pressing the reload key chamber the next round, while holding the key would reload. Could easily have a menu toggle as well so it’s not a mandatory choice for players.

Holding the reload button is already tied to changing ammo type but simply making it chamber first, reload second would be fine.
And of course, make it an option in the settings, as mentioned.
