Try with sudo
sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda2
i mean yea you cant alter fs without sudo
since it uses kernel space
@cerulean vine u suggested to mention u for any help. so doing it
do u know any good screenshot taker for linux? i know i already have the PrntScr button for screenshots. but i really miss my windows days in this case when i used to use Lightshot. i could edit the ss like writing a text, giving arrow indicators, etc before capturing it. Ctrl+C would only copy the ss in my clipboard, and Ctrl+S would save it in the file system. but now, the default ss taker in ubuntu, doesn't allow me to edit my ss on the go. also it saves the ss in the file system which i have to clean up later
Flameshot try koro
superblock is currupted
again
time to buy a new hdd
bro
this one in bad shape
i spent all my bday money in csgo gambiling
made 0 profit
dont even have 2k on hand just to get a 128 gig sh*t ssd
sucks
@cerulean vine which version of linux is this
wdym?
os?
Arch linux
xfce
🐧┃Switch to Linux
Check other forums as well
alr ur are maf zoned
tho u should've asked me as I'm the op 🗿
just use pure arch
already done
found the perfect kernel for my lappy
Prbly ur side issue
I'm damn sure my specs are worse thn urs
vanila arch is smooth
i would switch to linux
if
a lot of apps weren't
unsupported on linux
@restive nightwhat apps are you implying?
well games like valorant
and apps like photoshop
i heard you can run photoshop using a VM
but it just seems like too much extra work and i already have a low end pc so using a VM is not really an option
I have Photoshop running in wine
2022 version works well
Just when you click close, instead of closing it crashes instead, I mean no big deal
it is plus super light
there are free alternatives as well
gimp krita a lot of stuffs which are honestly better than the paid stuffs
c'mon cs2 is out who plays valo when u have cs2?
cs2, apex etc run in linux
99.99% of the offline games work too
(cracked games with denuvo drm dont work, consider buying them instead)
(cracked games without drm work fine)
I'm trying flameshot, but the issue is, it doesn't give me any editor. not even any way to select the screenshot area. when i click the Take Screenshot button, it just takes ss of my whole window. any idea how to solve that?
ur not using flameshot afaik
flameeshot gives u an editor
ur still using ubuntus default scrnshotter
demo
ok
the ui seems so old
dk what u r talking about. but i was talking about the ui of spectacle
@eager terrace here's my output
then wtf is wrong with my machine's flameshot?
i used to have a hyprland rice, now i am a normie with gnome-ie lol
all becuz unreal engine doesnt work properly inside hyprland(focus, out of focus issue, made a few specific rules for unreal, but nothing seemed to work 100%, custom rules just made it 50% better)
not bad, used to be an awm guy, but built a new pc so now im temporarily on manjaro + i3
gonna reinstall void when i get the chance though, manjaro sucks
Use cachyos
Instead
hm, looks a little like arco linux from a glance
It doesn't suck as long as you run this
I recommended they don't do what they are doing, but they don't listen lol
rm -rf ~/.config/gtk-4.0/
It has custom recompiled repositories
Recompiled for x86-64v3
oh nice
Most arch packages are stuck in x86_64v2
Why?😭
Chad qtile, xfce, gnome, kde ricer
Qtile's my main wm

@blazing vault time for switching operating systems season 5
try chromeos
@blazing vault what distro i should download (i swear if you say that one distro you obsess over)
Sounds suspicious but alright 👍
best distro
Sussy baka.
Nix if u rly want the best experience
Arch if u want the "us" experience
Fedora/Debian if u want the average experience
I certainly do hope this doesn't spark a 1v1 between you and @blazing vault
he is trapped in my basement
We will never see him again 😭
i feed him ssd memory chunks after installing arch in the ssd
soon he will be just like us
He will not come to see the light of day anymore 😭😭😭😭
Nix is honestly a gd option if u know how to use it
Life changing capabilities
The fact tht u are basically able to create a backup within 1 file is rly other wordly
This was his last words before getting devoured by a demon
And use tht same backup to copy ur exact device on any computer

in the realm of possibility if you are in silicon valley
Is the valley made up of sand?
All the hoes looking at me when i suddenly mention i use arch in public
dev ops engineer with nix os knowledge gets upwards of 350k us$ yearly
Can we steal the sand
Is Cox's Bazar "technically" silicon valley?
Wait a damm mintue
I'm a non existing dev ops engineer and I earn jutar bari regularly

Hear me out
So technically speaking
Bangladesh has the longest beach
That means
Biggest silicon Valley
That means
you will get the technical 350k usd salary then
just cant withdraw the cash
windows ui is filled with microlags, thanks to linux, dont have to deal with that bs
you cannot even notice the lag until you try linux, but oh well, i cant tolerate that 0.0017 second stutter lol

setup reveal
L, let people use what they want. Ubuntu 23.10 is very good
dnf is so slow tho
accha
Pacman
does dnf speed affect the gui software centers like gnome software or discover
more like
pacman not pablo
not dnf's fault fedora's mirrors so damn slow
does it affect gui software centers tho
and arch mirrors are too damn many, like too many for ppl to slow them down
download speed?
yes
and you have to use terminal to fix it
not a great user experience
imo
@blazing vault did you try opensuse tho
fedora trash
ong
arch users are the superior race
bad first impression for linux
arch users:
i feel like opensuse and ubuntu are enough for the average user
ubuntu too damn dumb
thats the point
💀💀💀💀💀
its beginner friendly
all it comes down to :use ubuntu kids
you will know once you use both ubuntu and arch
the difference is massive
arch is wayy easier to use
ubuntu gives too many dumb errors
giving linux community the bad name
fork apt
arch is easier to use? 💀
yes
honestly
apt structure infuriates me
wtf are you talking about 💀 you have to install it using a terminal
or are you talking about its derivatives
arch gave the gui installer
which one
manjaro, a arch based distro, had the first gui installer
first proper gui installer
ubuntu more popular tho
more companies support it
and you will have more answers online
for the average windows users, no 💀
oh
wait
nvm
i read it wrong
but like arch is too unstable
ik
no it isnt
if you have problems youre held responsible
what about the grub issue
no
like I said, the average user cannot fix that
how to scare any arch user: tell them about the grub issue
I pissed my pants
this is why you dont reccomend arch to new users
I mean arch is better
happened only once
no
its just another distro
I began with arch and it's impossible for me to return to any other distro
Tho nix has a lot of potentials
i just fear its instability
otherwise i could use it
also ubuntu is just more popular
you will find every package there
easy and simple
use nix then
I admit ubuntu is gd for beginners but what about the snap contro?
i dont get the snap hate
just use flatpaks if you dont like snaps
install gnome-software (or discover) from the app center
then install flatpak
easy
snap not foss
snap is foss
not entirely
also it dont matter 💀
only the backend of snapcraft
flatpak uses all opensource components
hell no
im too stupid
and ubuntu now even has the latest desktop enviroments
its just plane simple
use vanilla os instead
but like
isnt that immutable
does it even have a gui software center?
@blazing vault
who can't fix a grub issue with so many tutorials available should not come to linux. not also ubuntu. and grub issues can happen with any destro because bootloaders are not part of destro.
even as a new user i never used grub. there is lightweight built-in systemd-boot. and in todays uefi systems you can boot os directly without bootloaders which i'm using right now.
to install Hyprland in Arch you have to do
pacman -S hyprland (Easy, install never fails/stable, this is a maintained package because arch is popular)
in Ubuntu (hard, you have to build yourself because the maintainer and almost nobody cares for ubuntu, and since Ubuntu generally behind with dependencies build install can also fail/unstable)
sudo apt-get install -y meson wget build-essential ninja-build cmake-extras cmake gettext gettext-base fontconfig libfontconfig-dev libffi-dev libxml2-dev libdrm-dev libxkbcommon-x11-dev libxkbregistry-dev libxkbcommon-dev libpixman-1-dev libudev-dev libseat-dev seatd libxcb-dri3-dev libegl-dev libgles2 libegl1-mesa-dev glslang-tools libinput-bin libinput-dev libxcb-composite0-dev libavutil-dev libavcodec-dev libavformat-dev libxcb-ewmh2 libxcb-ewmh-dev libxcb-present-dev libxcb-icccm4-dev libxcb-render-util0-dev libxcb-res0-dev libxcb-xinput-dev xdg-desktop-portal-wlr
- manually build latest
wayland, wayland-protocols, libdisplay-infolike above + thencd hyprland && make installnot to forget you can't update/uninstall manual builds with apt, you are on your own to manage this.
you can't install the latest gnome 45 on existing ubuntu 22. have to wait for ubuntu maintainers to release and then upgrade the whole destro.
in arch there no such thing as system upgrade or package version incompatibility with destro version. therefore arch is always most latest.
not my favourite bootloader by a long shot
thats exactly what i am talking about
and ppl be saying ubuntu is easy, bro nix seems so much simpler than ubuntu lol
arch is byfar the easiest
i cannot even figure out installing steam properly in ubuntu, not without massive ass list of packages half of which are now unavailable
47 yt vids later, my steam still shows libbullshit.so missing
when i place libbullshit.so in the proper place manually, it causes problem next time i update
windows 8 is dethrowned already
linux-cachyos been using eevdf based schedular for like a long time now
good to see mainline making performance improvement
ikr
dnf inistoll <package>
and waiting eternity
with semi broken packages
we have more aarch mirrrors than fedora mirrors
what makes you think we hassle
where ever there is hassle i am out of there
lol
we literally need to do this
sudo pacman -S hyprland
done
no
arch mirrors are massive
lol
it has everything
who tf told you you gotta add repos
we never need to add repos
NEVER
i havnt done since moving to arch
aur is just build scripts, fedora has nothing like aur
not build scripts
is it?
aur is not made for prebuilt
but you can do prebuilts
by fetching from your server inside the script
kon pera
no?
what
where
apps have dependency trees
dependencies auto installed
if you need to be spoon fed in packages use ready made os's like endavour os, reborn os or cachyos
i personally use one of those instead of manual arch install
lol
eos uses grub as well, perhaps currupted iso
systemd-boot also works like grub
same shi
just structure is diff as in you need the efi boot directory in /boot and not /boot/efi
you probably mounted in /boot/efi lol
use grub in eos, you can use either
bcachefs merged in kernel 6.7, good news for ppl with massive hdd and smol ssd, you could use ssd for cache drive and hdd for storage drive with bcachefs
kernel 6.7 is probably gonna be mainline after like 2 months, so stay tuned
It never did for me
Blender is the best
Even the Video editor is so gd
Truly based software
im talking about the average user
yes hyprland is nice and all
but tiling window managers are srictly power user stuff
True, it's nowhere ok for a beginner
Xfce was my first de
Bd linux usage: >3% India linux usage: >14% less gooo
Gd old de days
And now i can't live without wms
Those keybinds are hard coded in my nerves
im considering trying out either arch or arch based distro (thinking reborn) or opensuse tumbleweed
still worldwide usage is low
went from 3% to 2.92%
osx is getting popular tho
gatekeeper spotted
'should not come to linux' more like why cant users have a stable experience without searching up shit
people can do that, its just annoying
ok maybe the uefi thing is valid
but this is the typical arch experience
Bro what is up with these numbers is this economic class or something 😭😭😭😭
you don't know what apps average users will use, broad term.
cs students? (docker, mongodb same hard af like hyprland)
gamers? (wine-wayland not available on ubuntu, available on arch)
countless examples like hyprland that proves arch is more easy, popular(maintainers prioritizes arch most), arch wiki is biggest linux knowledge base alive, every package available in aur, pure linux makes it stable, for every level of users, endeavouros comes with preinstalled apps, without grub for extreme beginners.
this is a suggestion. a suggester.
and who forcing to use if you hate the experience or searching. complaining linux bad when it's skill issue.
active community already given a quick fix. without being grateful, that is annoying? those users can go back to fixing windows BSOD instead, nobody stopping. and nothing is 100% stable.
you not getting it. problem is in grub itself. this is "grub experience" not arch experience. if this was arch issue then arch also wouldn't able to boot with uefi or systemd, not only grub.
hmm
maybe im not
too much text
how do you guys have this much paitence to read all of this

Howww
I need patience
ok
I have read 0 books in my life
but read a lot of manga
Idk man but why would a beginner even think about using arch or wms
Just use mint and have a good time
The always works distro
Best for beginners if u ask me
If arch is too much mint it is
because I can
this aint windows dawg
arch aint even that hard
don't br a clown bro
how do you expect a new fresh born linux user to understand arch
most of the new users use Ubuntu/mint
And have a good time
and if they want to go deep in the linux world then they will think about using arch or another distro
for us who have been using arch for sometime
It might not be that hard
But for new users it's hard bro
Imagine using vanilla arch as your first linux distro
We have to make linux as easy as possible dor the windows users to switch
or else windows monopoly shall remain for ever
I mean i did it
thats what im saying 💀
the other people disagrees
i was at the opposite end of the spectrum tho
this catfish and rakib guy was saying how arch is easier than ubuntu 😭😭
like seriously
even 'user-friendly' arch distros aint allat
i was having a bad time, sorry for taking your jokes seriously
not everyone can tho
i mean arch became more accessible now through archinstall
but like you still need some terminal knowledge
moral of the story: stop reccomending arch to beginners
im looking at you @blazing vault
this a topic even at r/archlinux
yeah
they have arch mirrors in Bangladesh
huge W
outdated
now arch derivatives are suitable for beginners, perhaps more so than ubuntu
using manjaro is sooo much easier than ubuntu
see
ubuntu is a errorhub
giving linux its "buggy" reputation
its from 1 yr ago 😭
manjaro IS the 'buggy' linux distro
i didnt have a bad experience using it on vm
well, those were the mistakes from manjaro team
but like you can have conflicts with aur packages since they are a stable release
go on , install steam in ubuntu
lol
it will not open right away, it will error out
dont use aur with manjaro
ez
im talking about manjaro 😭
thats the point of arch tho????
ppa: add this
add that
no need to bother w that
thats the point of manjaro, not arch
for arch yea
thats what im sayin
dude
point is
you literally cannot 1 click install steam in debians
you can on arch
whats easier
im saying to not reccomend arch to beginners
i can install arch the 'actual' way if I wanted to
so i should recomend something, that cant even 1 click install steam
its not a big problem for me lmao
thats your experience
bro still broken
ubuntu is objectively better for newbies
no
when did you last try
objectively worse
ight man you win 😭
2 months ago, i can make a ubutnu container rn to test out lol
i dont need to manually switch to ubuntu for that
yea
omfg 💀💀💀
as a matter of fact, i play my csgo from distrobox container
whats with the omfg
ofc youre gonna have issues 💀
as long as you have sound modules installed, it will work fine
no?
bruv, i installed all required packages,
yea nah why would they need ubuntu container when they got arch base
you really installed the most stripped down version of ubuntu then complain when a video game dosent work
bro same shii works on arch container
i play my cs2 from containers
why tho
i have my reasoning, i keep somethings seperated
do you perhaps fear the instability of arch?

no way
ifkr 💀😭
arch is not suitable for beginners because of It's bleeding edge model
if you use cachyos, you might experience a bit of instability,
with mirror rebasing, dont update while they are rebasing mirrors, you will see update notice when you try to update
other than that, it is very stable
orr just use default arch mirrors
sudo apt install whuida huidawiuhdaw huiawduiawdh uihadwuiasd uiwhaeduihawuih huiawdhauihsd hdwauihdauihds adwuihui-32 dawghyuidsa-32 dhawuidhasui-32 steam
average ubuntu experience
sudo pacman -S steam
avg arch exp
no
thats literally how i had to install steam
you used a container omg
then it worked
bruh, why dont you do it in vm as well, i have used ubuntu in the past
1 year
suprise fedora is semi rolling distro
not stable like ubuntu
damn do i really need to record this shii for you guyz to believe
damn
w8
lol
bro i use gnome
arch gets its not for everyone reputation from not having installer
its derivatives do have installer
bro that was the point of base arch
thats why derivatives exist
for example endavour os comes packed with everything
damn
what do you think eos is?
arch+everything
and i have never ran into that,
dependency hell is a big deal, arch mirrors would be wasted money if those actually existed lol
we arent living in 2013
why so damn slow, damn ubuntu servers suck
dont use aur, as single as that
obs is 1 click install
why you getting obs from aur
obs is 1 click install, if you have messed up wayland-qt config
then it is on you
OMFG BRO
THAT IS FOR EVERY DAMN DISTRO UNDER THE SUN
YOU NEED PROPER DAMN CONFIG FOR WAYLAND
ARCH JUST HAS DIFFERENT INSTALL SYSTEM THAN FEDORA/UBUNTU
EVERYHTING ELSE IS LITERALLY SAME
you can literally do the same in eos
whats your point
installing in here is easier, aint it?
thats all, all other configing is literally same as any other distro
arch doesnt have magic extra configs you need to do
yea i never disagreed to issues but dependency hell doesnt exist in arch mirror, it is cohesive
yes you do, in eos
not in arch base
arch base dont have env variables set
eos does
thats the point of eos
if you dumb, you use eos
thats that
i am dealing with buncha noobs who dont even know what they are talking about
how do you not know all configing is same across all distros
arch doesnt have some magic extra configs
just installing packge is dfferent
bro couldnt run godot and blender in fedora for half his lifetime
but still says arch worse even tho i have been running them without errors here
use a download manager
eos is just vanilla arch with a gui installer 😭
your experience isnt everyones experience
most people got brekages from arch more than any other distro
usually newbies face this alot
im dealing with an ignorant elitist
bro seriously thinks arch is good for new users
and better than every distro
its just another linux distro
'oh boy! I cant wait to edit config files!'
i assume with some environment variables set
you really think i do that?
messed up wayland-qt config
thats avg qt exp for you
it was broken in all distros at some point
i had to run certain qt apps with xcb in wayland session
it was very early on wayland's journey, so would make sence
lol
your pc is cursed
all in all, what part of arch do you think isnt suitable for beginners?
it's derivatives preconfigured and shit , steam installs in 1 click
why wont it be suitable, you literally got pamac for installing packages the gui way
and the fastest mirrors
@trim acorn
and window managers arent exclusive to arch, it is everywhere
you guyz dont seem to get it, all gnu-linux components are cross compatible between all distros
only thing different is how manjor distros package stuff, and versioning differences
that is literally it
demn, i just dont notice any issue for me
kde feels like dog shet
lol
i dont use kde
too complex
gnome so much better in my exp
basically can just use js to make extentions, the simplicity feels good
nah kde by design feels inferior
kde is not well optimized for arch
I know catfishes darkest secret
R u sure? It's one of the best arch based distros out there
Good and blender worked and still works like butter on my system
Always Nvidia isn't it?
💯
😎
bruh best!=popular
however arch is actually the most popular according to survey (afaik)
arch isnt the best
what about rebornos
heard its pretty good
dang
hi
same
It's nowhere popular mate
Decent as well
What of we recmnd nix os to newbies from now on?

linux from scratch or gentoo

or artix idk
Lfs being my personal favourite
Install a downgraded version of arch linux and make your own Distro
it is pretty good, equivalent to endavour os
Gnome vs xfce
nah nwg iso
gnome
i dont use it
@blazing vault check dm
wen release opensus weed
is the supprt for the intel arc gpu's good?
yes mesa is goooooooooooooood
intel has massive investment in israel
i personally wouldnt buy intel
@stone kernel
blood in my veins
How does that matter?
Amd probably has a investment in Israel aswell
not as far as i am aware
amd has a r&d center in israel, but it is very small, basically a small company aquired at only 5 million dollar
but they are reportedly investing in ireland r&d centers as on 2023 june
AMD has announced plans to invest up to US$135 million in Ireland over the next four years. The investment is intended to fund a number of strategic R&D initiatives through the addition of up to 290 highly skilled engineering and research positions, as well as a vast array of additional support positions.
Still there is one
No good companies ever exists
If rhet do, usually politics fucks them over
um ireland is one of very few countries that supports palestine
real
Escape the matrix
blood
dwm ke chokh e dekhte pari na
ekdom baje exp
amar
i had better hyprland exp then this
well are there any versions of linux that supports val and photoshop i'll try that if there is one
Just it won't quit, when you press exit, it just crashes instead lol
Other than this minor bug, it's fine
Valorant will never work on Linux sorry
The anti cheat requires windows kernel features, which is for now out of scope for wine/proton project
Play cs2 instead
hi
bye
try opensuse

recomended for lappy users only
for pc
I will.
If some one wants use linux use the proper linux
honesty I don't like debian
it's just too much work for me
delusional arch hater detected, opinion rejected
what distro?
Arch isn't really as confusing as people make it out to be
If people want to give it a go, that's up to them to decide
also the cli installer just looks intimidating, and there are tons of install scripts
there are plenty of people who know how it works
i'm not saying to start out with arch, but if they're interested they can give it a go
and maybe put together something like this 😉
have you ever installed arch?
if that's your opinion, then fair enough
i like the control that arch gives you, but i agree it's less user friendly than say, fedora
if people want to use arch, thats up to them
lacks software? what 💀
rpms, what can you say
I had the best experience with Opensuse
trying it out on a vm and stuff
what do you mean by compatibility
also openSUSE is the one with better repos
fedora was just slow af for me
idk why
prolly a gnome thing tho

gnome software was sooo slow
i went back to opensuse
will try out its GNOME edition tho
suse kinda lacks third party software but still not behind
my laptops tuxedo control center doesn't porpoerly works on suse
arch eats too much power. it is unctrolable
the hack is wrong with my lappy
@blazing vault boi I am tired of updating arch's rolling release of kernel
should i switch to lts kernel
Don't update then ☠️
Why you updating
man system to update kora lagbe
like discord asks for update if i don't update in a week
Oh
just type su
rm -r /
Right
you are done
and dc doesn't open
never need to update again
you can use octopi to update dc if you're interested in using a gui
When you are new to a group, sometimes it's hard to fit in. New-to-Linux users often find that it is hard for them to fit in with longtime Linux users. So here are some tips on how you can start acting like a longtime Linux user...so you can fit in.

Welcome to the team!
U might wanna learn some window managers @trim acorn
They are game breaking
The amount of customization and stuffs u can do is countless
Plus the hackability is other worldy
Oh I know about them.
I was a ricer back in 2021.
Wm of choice?
reason #53684962487620467 to #1070321067215818832: you dont need to compile vulcan shaders stuff, directx is built in
You don't need to, you can also have it done live
Well steam does it before launching game for some reason
Takes under a minute soooo
hmmmm
বালকান xD
That's a steam issue not linux
@restive prism know before you type abt something
Careful on installing viruses named visual c++
well, steam doesnt give a issue on windows
steam not working properly on linux is technically a linux issue
its more like a steam issue because they didnt solve their problems in linux
@blazing vault start my boi
thousand lines of text incoming...
i am currently having a oh hell na moment using nix os

only nix's hyprland situation is more cursed than my life

Atleast there is peace knowing ppl can't mess up my config

(added isolation with vm)
i mean you can delete it after usage
when
@trim acorn bhai fedora kene
kono isp te Bhalo download pai na speed er
so I just use arch
bal 👂
perhaps you may consider using nixos, all os states are stored in a configuration.nix file
you can even use home manager to implement home configs
like theme, icons, desktop environment, login manager, kernel, kernel modules, apps, systemd services, environment variables all set in stone, basically as close to unbreakable as it gets
problem is, you gotta learn nix language
that is a relatively good problem to have
been there done that
soooooooooooo
nix is nice but. ..meh
why back to arch
nix is meh
you dont even use hyprland, which is ......... slightly less than ideal situation, they have stable hyprland, i want aplha build lol
bro all distros do
lol
gnome is perfect in nix
hyprland is ... going meh, cuz no alpha builds
hyprland my beloved
Agh man, that's the thing something with stable portal is messed up
