Help with synths

I don't know why my synth one-shots last longer than what's on my piano roll and doesn't stop even when I press space. Also, do you need a synth plugin in order to get a synth like in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_HpIoQmBko&t=16s

as for needing a synth plugin, he doesn't show it in the video but judging from how it sounds when it's released i'm going to assume he's using something like Serum

but you don't need serum strictly, i will always recommend using synths over a synth one shot sample
