Right click> Rename should bring up the same menu

Also, the behavior seems to change depending on where you shift click on the channel.

To the left of the red line opens rename, to the right of the red line opens the icon list.

tried that but anywhere i click still brings up both the icon menu and rename menu

I don't know what to tell you, it should pop up the rename/icon/color menu.
