What if a Random Texture can be applied to the entity and then an "Overlay" can be applied to that... Similar concept to CTM... A feature set like this could basically allow for in-game mob building by layering textures then flattening them to one texture on the mob... I'm sure (if it is even possible) it would be way more complicated than how I described it...

the groundwork is there that is basically what emissive textures do already
but there would be many factors that would introduce z fighting with shaders and it would take a lot of work to try and correct on the back end and its already allot just for emissives
while it'd be great to for instance, make a snow overlay that only applies to those mobs in a snow biome regardless of texture, it would be infinitely easier for the resource pack dev to simply make a snowed version of every variant and do it that way
I will definitely add this to my list of ideas, but it wont be any time soon
