To add the the more hardcore survival atmosphere.

I suggest making ranged weapon combat a bit more grounded and realistic.

A global modifier that slows the base reload speed animation down about 30-50%.

This adds intensity alongside making the combat feel more realistic as it is quite arcadey and even goofy at sometimes in 7 days.

If it feels necessary, a global modifier on all ranged weapon damage could be introduced to increase it by 10-20% for balancing purposes.

I haven't really digested the consequences of the idea, but I will just say: I like the thinking/reasoning behind it. I agree with the sentiment that 7DTD is an 'arcade' experience, in general, and anything that shifts it away from that is a good thing in my book.

I can say with the weapon pack updates that came with the most recent major patch I'm noticing significant changes in the weapon loading times. still relatively early in the game but I have the Mosin and the dual M9s and both of them have not insignificant reload times and great animations.

Yeah it's awesome to have the new weapons with really solid animations.

I was really more focused on the pacing of combat and the general feel that comes from thing like the reload speed, including vanilla.

In a mod like this, I think a slower, more realistic combat experience is more fitting for reasons above.

I personally would like to see the weapons further curated for the mod.

Dual wielding for example I personally would happily see removed as this is another thing that adds more of an arcadey / goofy feel to the experience.

It feels like the world should be populated by banged up semi auto and civilian weapon types

#

Military grade weapons should be exceptionally rare and hard to find and maintain

If you want to get into the realism then the use magazines for the bullets instead of loose bullets. Then have to reload the magazines to reload the gun. Fire 3 shots of a 15 shot mag? Now you have another inventory item of a magazine with 12 shots. Catch a break? Top off the magazines and they stack again. Magazines in RL are quick. Loose bullets..not so much.

Yeah I love it. Days / tarkov style. A lot more immersive and again adds more depth to combat and adventuring.

Want to add more realism? Add a % chance to drop magazines during the swap. 😀

I general, I would opt for anything to make the combat experience more grounded, realistic and immersive.

  1. Slower, more realistic reload speeds

  2. Mag packing

  3. Weapon malfunctions for banged up weaons

  4. Loot distribution more natural and rewarding. Civilian, banged up rifles are common but if you want that high grade mili gun its gunna be a big raid on a top tier POI. Even then you might get a banged up one that needs maintaining. Maybe you need specific repair kits for high grade mili guns too.

  5. Weapon inertia, more natural recoil (Stalker gamma mod, tarkov inspired)

  6. More fitting weapons curated for the Afterlife type survival experience.

Even adding DLX mod and the POV mods together makes a huge difference and improvement to the combat experience when using ranged weapons.

I hate that in the vanilla game, weapons are so close to your face it feels like they are coming out of your head.

And if you could pick the region of the world for you map. For loot %. I would choose the US south. Every POI would have at least 1 gun; maybe 20 with 1000’s of rounds of ammo 😀

Although I would say even there, the reload speed is too fast for a more hardcore realistic experience

#

And the gun is too high up when sprinting

But with the repositiing of the weapon, you don't even need crosshairs at all.
