When smelting scrap metal the metal will be melted down and collected in the scrap total as per normal. The scrap total does not smelt correctly however. The other total metal values will flicker with .02 then revert back to 0 a moment later. The scrap total will only rarely tick down as well. After leaving the forge on for several minutes the scrap total went from 8kg to 7.78kg with a tiny amount being converted to copper, tin, and iron.

were you crafting stuff while looking at the smelting scrap in the UI? there's a fairly well known issue where it doesn't like smelting while crafting while the UI is open.

nope. I even took the scrap out of the forge and just let the total scrap value cook. the behavior I described didn't change

Scrap smelting depends on heat levels as well. If it doesn't have high enough heat to smelt the higher heat needing metals then it cycles back and might give slag. If it does, then you can possibly get trace higher metals, even inconel. Since you are getting copper, tin, and iron I'm guessing you are at like a 3 ish, maybe spiking. Get a consistent higher heat and see what that does.
