This was confirmed by @AlphaCastFR: The Overwatch client will eventually merge with the Overwatch 2 client. There will only be one game. "OW2" will be the client that everyone will use. People who have not purchased OW2 will simply have the "PVE" part locked.

this year has been the worst year for world cup imo
no funding for teams outside of top 10 meaning they dont even get a chance to compete, messy production, streams jumping all over the place, not knowing specifically where every game is getting streamed (They also swapped the game they were streaming many times without informing the viewers) and extremely long sessions which literally last the entire day and teams have to play back-to-back which causes games to some times have unfair results because of exhaustion.
I hope they return to the old format next year or at least fix these issues by maybe having preliminaries spread out through the week before blizzcon instead of just the day before.

at least there have been some upsets

but still the best of 3 format is just not fun either, but I guess I understand why they did it that way

@hearty cedar there are 2 groups for playoffs, Group A and Group B. America was in the A group and was the top team. China is in the B group and was also the top team (top team is team with most win's of the group). Each group has 5 teams in it so each team plays in 4 games in their respective group. The groups are not based on geographic positioning.
